Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for Georgia governor, said Sunday that the state's voter ID law, which has put tens of thousands of voter registration applications on hold, is designed to "scare people out of voting."
"This is simply a redux of a failed system that is designed to both scare people out of voting and make it harder for those who are willing to push through, make it harder for them to vote," Abrams said on CNN's "State of the Union."
Abrams was asked about the 53,000 voter registration applications, mostly from black voters, that have been put on hold for failing to meet the states exact match law.
That law marks an applicants registration as pending if the personal information on their voter registration form doesnt match the information on the state's Department of Driver Services or the Social Security Administration.
Abrams is among those who have accused her opponent, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who leads the office that oversees Georgia elections, of trying to suppress minority votes.
Kemp has said that those 53,000 voters can still vote if they show identification, but Abrams said on "State of the Union" that those voters "are being forced to go through unnecessary hurdles to prove their bona fides."

Yep. Abrams has the IQ of a grapefruit.
Typical Democrat Party nonsense. Nobody would be scared from voting by being asked for identification. It’s goofy on its face.
The only person scared is Stacey, cuz the illegals she wants votes from and the dead people who planned to vote for her won’t be at the polls.
It is meant to scare people out of voting, illegal migrants.
Photo ID does not scare people out of their welfare checks, or from buying beer.
I guess businesses that require on or more forms of id want to scare away customers, by that logic.
Whats so frightening about showing your license or id card to an old lady or guy at a voting table?
Someone really needs to explain that one.
Having to present an ID is so scary!!!
The horror, THE HORROR!!!!!
We’ve had voter ID in Tennessee for years and NO ONE has claimed that it made them afraid to vote.
[Yep. Abrams has the IQ of a grapefruit.]
Now, now. Let’s be civil (unlike Hillary, Holder, Obama and Maxine Waters).
There is absolutely no need to insult a grapefruit.
Happy Halloween, bish.
What is the worst that happens under Voter ID laws if your ID is defective? They say, “No.”
Not very frightening.
.
Anyone scared of having to produce a legit ID has no business voting!
.
No, they’re indented to prevent those who shouldn’t be voting or voting more than once from voting or voting more than once.
How, exactly, would that 'scare' people?
How does it do that?
Why don’t the liberals help the allegedly helpless people get their ID so they can vote?
They tell stories of elderly and invalid people who can’t get an ID, and/or can’t get to a voter registration location.
So then, why don’t they help people meet the legal requirements to vote?
Decades ago, young people went South , becire the voting rights act was passed, and helped black voters get registered. They helped educate black voters then about their right to vote, and helped them get registered.
Why don’t idealistic young people do something similar today, to help overcome these alleged obstacles to voting?
Or is it just easier to bitch about, rather than getting right with voter ID laws?
Anyone scared of having to produce a legit ID has no business voting!
Exactly!! That means they cant fly on an airline, open a checking account or go to the doctor.
If DJT can get this done, the ship of state has a chance to sail straight because dems true support will be exposed.
It does not seem to scare them out of their EBT handouts.
