On Oct. 6, 2018, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court by the narrowest of margins, with 50 votes in favor and 48 votes against. He is the first justice in U.S. history to be confirmed by senators representing less than half of the country (44 percent), with a majority of the population (52 percent) opposed to his nomination.
Kavanaugh is the second Supreme Court justice picked by President Donald Trump. Trump, in turn, is the second president in five elections to enter the White House after losing the popular vote. In 2000, George W. Bush lost the popular vote to Al Gore by 540,520 votes but won the Electoral College after the Supreme Court halted the Florida recount. Similarly, Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by an overwhelming 2,809,197 votes. But like Bush, Trump won the Electoral College, and thus the presidency.
The U.S. political system is institutionally rigged in favor of conservative white voters who drastically diverge from the political values of most Americans. This is why Kavanaugh was able to be confirmed by the Senate, and its the reason filmmaker Michael Moore, who predicted Trumps victory in 2016, recently warned that Trump could very likely be a two-term president.
I am a scholar of migration, which wouldnt seem to be related to the U.S. electoral system at all. However, a close look at demographic shifts in the United States over the 20th century helps us understand just how rigged Americas government is, how Trump became president and why its more likely than not that hell be re-elected in 2020.

"Supporters of the Electoral College argue that the system insulates the executive branch from the whims of an uninformed public and balances power between sparsely populated rural states and densely populated urban states. As benign as this arrangement may seem, however, its steeped in the legacy of slavery, discrimination and racism. In practice, it systematically undervalues minority voters in urban areas in favor of white voters from rural counties."
OK, Ben. We get it. White people are shit.
Seriously, I have no patience with people who advocate white pride. They can go to hell. I'm against both racial pride and racial shame. But, I get you Ben. You think that doing away with the Electoral College is a great step forward. Not all of us are certain of that.
We really need poll testing. If you can’t answer correctly 10 questions about our form of gov’t & current events you shouldn’t be allowed to vote. That ‘majority’ that didn’t want Kavanaugh were ill-informed by the media. Period. Those people should not vote.
The guy forgot yo mention the real reason t the great wins he has Naga. God it is going to be fun watching libs in 2020
Why Donald Trump Will Likely Win A Second Term As President
because you’re f n losers
now go away
You think that doing away with the Electoral College is a great step forward. Not all of us are certain of that.

We must remind all these so called elites that the United States is NOT a pure democracy. We ARE a Democratic REPUBLIC.
Democracies fail because of the uninformed and brainwashed mobs. We are a REPUBLIC and WILL keep the Electoral College.
>>>He is the first justice in U.S. history to be confirmed by senators representing less than half of the country (44 percent)<<<
Let’s see how the numbers change in November . . . ROUT!
“I am a scholar of migration”
Holy shit! An expert...
This person is ignorant! When the country was founded, most of the slaves and minorities were in the rural area of the country doing labor and upper class whites were in the cities. Obviously the minority/ whites living in the urban and rural area has flipped but that has happened in the last 70 years
The U.S. political system is institutionally rigged in favor of conservative white voters who drastically diverge from the political values of most Americans.
In other words Whitey is the enemy since he too often is a patriot and supports limited government versus ‘politics in command’ government.
Why Donald Trump Will Likely Win A Second Term As President
Donald Trump will win re-election BECAUSE HE EARNED IT!!
I remember when Commie libs LOVED the Electoral College, that was when Dems were winning elections. The Electoral College already gives Democrats a HUGE Advantage in California and New York having the most electoral votes..a Republican needs multiple swing states to win an election and Commies are STILL bitching?
By that logic, 43% Bill Clinton should have never been allowed to nominate a Supreme Court Justice.
Let alone two.
I noticed there’s no way to post comments at The Huffington Post.
Gee, I wonder why?
Could it be he wants no one to remind his readers of the Senate represents the states and house represents the people
Because the violent, anti-American, Socialist, fascists are not supported by most Americans?
The change is never going to happen. No state without its consent, may be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.
Good luck with it. Democrats cant win small rural states? Not our problem. And the Democrats inability to win a majority of the white vote isnt our problem either.
The Democrats political problems have nothing to do with the structure of the Senate of with the Electoral College. It has to with their hate of white voters and the way they treat them.
No constitutional amendment can address that for them.
CORRECTION - the USA is a democratically-elected representational ‘constitutional republic.’
I suspect Trump will not run again. Who wants to be Presidentin at the age of 77?
Of course, he would never say so before the midterms. To do so would be disasterous. But he will want to clear out early, because the 2020 campaign begins in December.
I suspect that is why Nikki Haley is suddenly so keen on spending time with her family ...
What a bunch of Obamaria. Ben needs to abort himself for the cause.
Reagan was 78 when he left office. 70 is the new 50 and Trump has the stamina of a much younger man.
He will run again.
