In the Michigan Senate race, Republican nominee John James remains a long shot against Democratic incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow. But he's an especially attractive candidate, and the most recent poll shows him just 9 points behind his overwhelmingly favored opponent.
What's going on here? Some might point to the fierce battle over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. But I think the candidate himself is the key here. As a small business owner who illustrates both the history and progress of the American dream, James is also a West Point and Harvard graduate and a combat veteran.
Although he branched into Army aviation as a helicopter pilot, James earned the Ranger infantry tab. Put simply, James is one impressive guy. And while defeating the Democratic incumbent in nominally blue Michigan will be an uphill struggle, James is not nearly as far behind as you'd expect, given the attention his race has gotten.

Ted Nugent and the Kid should be campaigning with and for James.
$150 isn't cheap......and it was at the Residence Inn in Troy.........LOL!
He’s particularly good because young and good enough to not only ride a red wave into office — but to likely keep it for re-election, if that’s where his political path calls him.
I've got about 20 which includes nieces, nephews and their in-laws...Maybe more.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN MY FAMILY is a Republican.......
I even won a hundred bucks from my BIL's brother who is a New Jersey republican who said Trump would never win......
Yes!! John James for the win!!!
Good. I’m surprised James has had such a tough run against Stabenow. On paper he’s an ideal candidate. I guess that’s the power of the incumbent.
Nugent announced support, but haven’t seen him scheduled for any John James events.
6 year term has been completed, and GOP needs to voters reason to FIRE the office holder.
Debbie Stabenow with husband, Thomas Athans, 46, co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network. Court records say U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and her husband were divorced, 15 months after he was caught in a hotel tryst with a prostitute.
The Detroit Free Press said Sunday it viewed court records showing that an Eaton County judge on May 28 made the divorce final between the Michigan Democrat and Tom Athans.
Police in the Detroit suburb of Troy stopped Athans on Feb. 26, 2008, after he left the Residence Inn in Troy. Police had been conducting surveillance there on Alycia Martin for suspected prostitution.
Athans says he paid Martin $150 for sex. He wasn't charged, and he testified against the then-21-year-old Westland woman. She was sentenced to probation for trespassing.
Athans and Stabenow were married for about six years. He's a radio producer.

Thanks, yes. Plus I get GOP text alerts for local events.
I’m the choir though and will let someone else have my spot.
That would make him 54 yrs old and she looks to be in her mid-late 70’s.
No wonder he was lookin’ for hookin’.
My previous donation should be getting to Michigan addresses.
If this guy had been able to raise $10 million I believe he would have not just won, but won handily with a full media campaign. He needs to be more than a name on a ballot people see and he is far more than a “generic Republican.” He’s youthful, but mature and well spoken - a very good combination.
