Kavanaugh Casualties
National Review ^ | Oct. 9, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

hen the Christine Ford saga finally ended with the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, a lot of truth had distilled out, along with the evaporation of prior pretensions and misconceptions.

The hearing confirmed that the traditional JFK/Hubert Humphrey Democrat party, as once envisioned by a Bill Clinton, Gary Hart, or Jim Webb, is long kaput. In its place is being birthed a hard-left progressive movement that absorbs the ideologies and methodologies of its base and that now incorporates all sorts, from Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist hipsters to Black Lives Matters, Antifa, and Occupy Wall Street protestors.

-—the United States is destroyed. ——

I would argue that America is already destroyed and that the President is working hard to remake it

The recent hearing debacle is proof of the destruction

Truly a brilliant article. I’ve not read all of VDH’s excellent articles, but of the many that I have, this ranks number 1.

A tour de force! One to be disseminated widely.

I mean destroyed in a more physical way. Not utter destruction of cities or anything. More like How Venezuela is going down.

Right now the ongoing destruction impacts most people in how they emotionally/intellectually “feel” impacted. I’m talking about serious civil unrest, overtaxed national guard, etc. Possible total breakdown of the system. e.g. Credit cards don’t work.

What this left vs right fight to the death is all about will determine which of two philisophies or world views will dominate - the enlightenment that has ruled for the past 200 plus years, or postmodernism which has been incubating in the academies and in the past few years has been oozing out in the general society.

It’s like being back in the age of reformation.

I think that is what is already happening and what will lead to scenario 1. :)

Yep. I have to confess, though, that a few months after the 2016 I started wondering if what we saw in that election was divine intervention.

And I’m wondering the same thing about the Kavanaugh events.

Which brings me to November...and how the left will respond to the results. I’ve found that God likes to let things build to a crescendo so that all doubt is removed.

Just thinking out loud.

I like VDH, but comparing Bill Clinton to JFK and Humphrey is absurd.

I also think it leads to scenario 1, but I don't think it's already happening.

But I'm waiting for it to happen. I hope it begins to happen next year after the mid-term elections.

It’s so brilliant that I couldn’t quote any highlights—it’s all highlights.

“Never Trumpers had always assured their former conservative colleagues that Trump would either fail or prove liberal.”
I am not nor have ever been a “never Trumper” but I initially believed that Trump would prove to be far more liberal than he made himself out to be.

I am ecstatic to have been proven wrong.

Ted Cruz seemed to be the only acceptable choice among the 15 hopefuls. As a former long-time NYS resident, I had heard about Trump primarily for divorces and girl friends. And was appalled when he announced - and was threatening to self-fund, steal the Republican nomination, and (I assumed) either lose to Hillary or be a RINO.

When Trump had to cancel an appearance because of Democrat shenanigans, Cruz shot himself grievously in the foot. He got off his campaign plane and made a perfect statement condemning the abuse of the rights of the people to hear Trump which had been perpetrated - and immediately segued into a rant against Trump. Now, I understood Cruz’ point entirely - what Trump had said about Cruz and his father was, to understate the case, unkind.

But, as I instantly understood, the only correct thing to say immediately after condemning the shutting down of a Trump event was exactly nothing.

History. But after Trump cornered enough delegates to clinch the nomination, I switched to Trump on the basis of NeverHillary. He really clinched the deal by committing to a Federalist Society list of potential SCOTUS nominees.
