There Are RINOs but Never DINOs

The RINO is an interesting political phenomenon and relatively new. It stands for Republican in Name Only, meaning that although the office-holder is a registered Republican, his voting record and public statements are too often aligned with liberal causes.

Charlie Baker, the current governor of Massachusetts, is a classic example of the RINO. He openly and proudly supports the Bathroom Bill (a Mass. ballot question that will allow any person of any sex or "gender identity" to use any public bathroom he chooses); refuses to come out strongly against sanctuary cities; and will not champion the rollback of Massachusetts's onerous state sales tax, which was raised by preceding Democratic Governor Deval Patrick from 5% to 6.25% – an astonishing 25% increase. In fact, Baker's overall policy approach and his stances on traditional Republican-conservative issues are so left-leaning that he has earned the derisive sobriquet of "Tall Deval" – a reference to his 6-ft., 5-in. height and his liberal governing philosophy. That his approval rating is so high in heavily Democratic Massachusetts that he is called "The Most Popular Governor in the Country" says it all. He is, indeed, the prototypical RINO.

This kind of politician seems to exist only on the Republican side of the fence. Only Republicans have to scramble to make sure all their members are on board for crucial congressional votes. When a Senate vote looms on a controversial measure, only Republicans have to be certain that all their members are on the same page. John McCain was famous for deviating from Republican orthodoxy, earning him the positive-intentioned nickname from the liberal mainstream media of "Maverick of the Senate."

There probably were DINOs back in the days of the “Scoop Jackson” democrats. If he were still around, Lloyd Bentsen might be a DINO today.

The Democrats are like lemmings - all in lockstep as if pulled by a puppet master.

As was revealed (accidentally) the other day by the Chaircreature of the DNC,there are no moderates left in the Rat Party. They were purged long ago. Zell Miller was probably the last and he's just a distant memory.

There used to be conservative Democrats that today might be called DINOs. These included Rep. John Rarick (D-La.), who probably had the most conservative voting record in the House. After he lost to sportscaster Jeff La Caze, a self-proclaimed “national Democrat” in the 1974 primary, his district went Republican. Sen. James Allen (D-Ala.) was one of the most conservative Senators until his untimely death in 1978. And during the ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, Los Angeles had a Democratic mayor, Sam Yorty, who was more conservative than most Republicans.

The current Dem Party will not tolerate somebody running as a Democrat who does not follow the Progressive platform. They will run him out of the party.

Bernie Sanders. He briefly change affiliation from Socialist to Democrat to run for president. He changed back to “indie” after the election.

Scoop Jackson was decent enough on some foreign policy, but on almost everything else he was very much a left-winger. His Conservative rating in 1981 from the American Conservative Union under Reagan was 7%. His lifetime rating was 18% (meaning 82% left-wing).

Blue Dog Dems are a thing of the past. The commie progressives have pushed them all out. Not long ago there were a bunch; today there are none. Manchin is about as close to one as we are going to find today.

The dimrats morphed into the CPUSA. The Rino’s shifted left to fill the void.

Agree with the Bentsen comment, but he had a LOT to change to truly start voting along the right aisle.

Joe Leiberman - His only division with the party was his stance on Israel. That was enough for them to eat him. Every dem knows they can’t go up against the party.

We have RINOs because the idea of Conservatism to “not change”. To put it simply, to vote “No”. nothing personal, but that’s the job of a republican. Vote no. The moment they don’t vote no, they aren’t being conservative.

“Bernie Sanders. “

And if you recall, he had his face wailed on the morning of day 2 of the DNC. Remember his black eye ?

I was, and still am, very weirded out by that.

I think Manchin gets called that from his side quite often.

Bentsen ran with and endorsed the far left kook Dukakis. He was an LBJ leftist.

Agree 100%

If Bentsen was a "DINO," so was LBJ, Ann Richards and Jim Hightower.

Fifty years ago, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina would have been a Democrat.

However, I don't think he would have had the political courage to be a DINO, because he loves holding political office more than he loves Conservative principles.

And, a slightly off topic vanity from zeestephen....

Watching Lindsey Graham's performance during the Kavanaugh confirmation makes me think Graham has decided to run for President.

If Trump is healthy and popular in 2020, Graham will not challenge Trump. Graham will wait until 2024.

But if Trump falters, I think Graham will run a low key respectful primary campaign against Trump, just to see what happens.

There is a very important reason that RINO Graham keeps winning elections in South Carolina....

He is a brilliant and charming one-on-one campaigner.

Voters in South Carolina have a genuine affection for Graham on a personal level.

Can Graham carry that political charisma into national campaign?

I think we are about to find out.
