There probably were DINOs back in the days of the “Scoop Jackson” democrats. If he were still around, Lloyd Bentsen might be a DINO today.
ALL DEMOCRATS ARE VILE, EVIL, VICIOUS, LYING DESTROYERS OF GOOD PEOPLE!! SHUN THEM!!
The Democrats are like lemmings - all in lockstep as if pulled by a puppet master.
There used to be conservative Democrats that today might be called DINOs. These included Rep. John Rarick (D-La.), who probably had the most conservative voting record in the House. After he lost to sportscaster Jeff La Caze, a self-proclaimed “national Democrat” in the 1974 primary, his district went Republican. Sen. James Allen (D-Ala.) was one of the most conservative Senators until his untimely death in 1978. And during the ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, Los Angeles had a Democratic mayor, Sam Yorty, who was more conservative than most Republicans.
Modified for accuracy.
The current Dem Party will not tolerate somebody running as a Democrat who does not follow the Progressive platform. They will run him out of the party.
Bernie Sanders. He briefly change affiliation from Socialist to Democrat to run for president. He changed back to “indie” after the election.
Joe Lieberman got run out of his party
Scoop Jackson was decent enough on some foreign policy, but on almost everything else he was very much a left-winger. His Conservative rating in 1981 from the American Conservative Union under Reagan was 7%. His lifetime rating was 18% (meaning 82% left-wing).
Blue Dog Dems are a thing of the past. The commie progressives have pushed them all out. Not long ago there were a bunch; today there are none. Manchin is about as close to one as we are going to find today.
The dimrats morphed into the CPUSA. The Rino’s shifted left to fill the void.
Agree with the Bentsen comment, but he had a LOT to change to truly start voting along the right aisle.
Joe Leiberman - His only division with the party was his stance on Israel. That was enough for them to eat him. Every dem knows they can’t go up against the party.
We have RINOs because the idea of Conservatism to “not change”. To put it simply, to vote “No”. nothing personal, but that’s the job of a republican. Vote no. The moment they don’t vote no, they aren’t being conservative.
“Bernie Sanders. “
And if you recall, he had his face wailed on the morning of day 2 of the DNC. Remember his black eye ?
I was, and still am, very weirded out by that.
I think Manchin gets called that from his side quite often.
Bentsen ran with and endorsed the far left kook Dukakis. He was an LBJ leftist.
I agree.
Agree 100%
If Bentsen was a "DINO," so was LBJ, Ann Richards and Jim Hightower.
However, I don't think he would have had the political courage to be a DINO, because he loves holding political office more than he loves Conservative principles.
And, a slightly off topic vanity from zeestephen....
Watching Lindsey Graham's performance during the Kavanaugh confirmation makes me think Graham has decided to run for President.
If Trump is healthy and popular in 2020, Graham will not challenge Trump. Graham will wait until 2024.
But if Trump falters, I think Graham will run a low key respectful primary campaign against Trump, just to see what happens.
There is a very important reason that RINO Graham keeps winning elections in South Carolina....
He is a brilliant and charming one-on-one campaigner.
Voters in South Carolina have a genuine affection for Graham on a personal level.
Can Graham carry that political charisma into national campaign?
I think we are about to find out.
