Ethanol is bad policy, bad economics, bad for engines, but great for the crony Ag lobby.

Yeah WTF?!?!?
You are not obligated to keep a BAD campaign promise!
Trump has been nothing less than a STELLAR president.
Here, however, he is wrong.

Ethanol is welfare for corn farmers. It’s bad for the environment, bad for gas mileage and bad for engines. Thankfully, I live in a state where I can still buy ethanol-free gas.

Ethanol is bad policy, bad economics, bad for engines, but great for the crony Ag lobby. Agree on all. But to keep the midwestern corn belt on board politically? Ill rebuild my engines if I have to.

"Here, however, he is wrong."It surfaced after an STC ( Supplemental Type Certificate ) was obtained to burn auto gas in General Aviation airplanes some time ago. Ethanol would eat at O-rings and it caused some crashes. 2 planes I know (homebuilts) constructed w/ fiberglass tanks made emergency landings because it ate at the epoxy and it went south from there. So enter replace rubber with Viton.
Now these problems aren't just for aircraft, Boats, off road vehicles, Muscle Cars, anything with an old school engine or fuel system. I helped a friend get an old chainsaw going since this new fuel wouldn't do it. Av-gas mixed with motor mechanic, after about 4 pulls did the trick. How many freepers here in States where they can't get an unblended fuel ( think the Northeast ) have posted their or problems their friends have had with this stuff, especially the Outboard Motor folks, their headaches are legendary.
Love POTUS and I am not tired of winning and I get why he did this, but I do not like this one bit. Exchange the corn for De-esculation as a incentive for the Norks. That is a win win. Let them feed their livestock with it or grow that segment of their food supply.

At least I still have a practical reason to discuss the inefficiency caused by subsidies in my Economics classes...

I’ll look it up myself so as not to sound as lazy as I really am.
But when and HOW the HECK did corn ever END UP in our tanks?!?!

I can get ethanol free gas, but I have to drive quite a ways to get it.
For my small engines I've even resorted to stripping out the ethanol from the gas with water. That lowers the octane a couple of points though, so I start out with a higher grade.
To: Elderberry
This is the only issue on which I have disagreed with Trump.

DP, I am no auto engineer, but I did stay @ a Holiday Inn Express ;-). The auto engineers design for the E-fuels, and the engine digital controls correct for it. Some have said it senses the cooler burn and you actually get more power in turbo applications. However, Mileage sucks. I got lucky one day it is the only thing I can think of. I watched a car I drive go from 17mpg to 21 in the summer and all I can think is I got either a batch of winter blend accidentally or it was ethanol free. To this day I haven't been able to replicate that experience. It had to be the fuel, because the car ran better as well, more pep.

Elderberry, do you strip it with water, or do you have some other method that I maybe unaware of, aka centrifugal force etc.
