McConnell ready for another Supreme Court vacancy
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/08/18

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is signaling that he is ready and prepared to move another Supreme Court nominee from President Trump through Senate confirmation – including during the the 2020 presidential election season, if another seat were to become available then.

“We’ll see if there is a vacancy in 2020,” McConnell said in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation."

McConnell famously blocked a Senate vote on former President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nomination Merrick Garland two years ago, on the grounds that it was a presidential election year.

When asked Sunday whether moving a Trump nominee in 2020 would break the precedent he himself set in 2016, McConnell argued that a Senate case in 1880 justified blocking a nominee in the specific situation in which the Senate is controlled by the party opposing the president.

Trump has boasted that he may have the opportunity to nominate several more justices. Court-watchers are closely tuned in, in particular, to the health of liberal justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is 85 years old. The second oldest justice, Stephen Breyer, also generally sides with liberals on the court.

My earlier comment was: "Hell, Mitch, there could a vacancy this week. I just hope it's not through assassination."

Then 100American asked: Interesting comment, care to expand your premise beyond or towards what the Blue Team outliers are asking for??

Some of the Justices are fairly old, especially RBG, and one of them could die of natural causes this week and thus there would be a vacancy. I wouldn't want any of them to die through assassination, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's an attempt on Kavanaugh's life.

To sharpen my point a bit, there is one on the Blue Team who is openly calling for Assasination, in the news feed today...

Stupid, but it could plant an idea in an MKUltra drone and the Blue Team would not shed a tear

Just curious, who was it on the Blue Team who openly called for assassination?

Type 1 is not fixed by controlling weight.

I know that. Nothing will fix type 1. I have two children with type 1.

Your health and immune system is already compromised with type 1. To let yourself get fat, as Sotomayor has done, compounds your health problems - those associated with being a diabetic on top of those associated with being fat.

Add to that her age, which brings its own set of health risks.

One would think that, as an educated and very wise Latina, she would know all this and, in her infinite wisdom, lose weight and improve her health.

One would sure think so but there are lots of very intelligent obese folks running, well ambling, around.

For some it’s a real struggle to lose weight but I’m sure you know that too.

Sorry to hear about your kids.

I didn't say she wasn't smart. I'm saying she's not wise. Allowing herself to be in that condition with her disease is on her. And yes, I'm using the "wise" word because she used it in connection with her ethnicity, like it was relevant.

I've struggled with keeping weight off and still do. It's a constant annoyance to eat less and exercise more than I want.

But something being difficult doesn't give you an excuse not to do it, especially when it comes to the only body you've been given.

Thank you, by the way. And one type 1 child exercises and stays fit, the other does not and is overweight. Her life will probably be cut short because of it and I am helpless to change that.

I truly don’t see RBG making it to 2020.

Did Breyer get arrested for underage drinking at Stanford?

Thomas may have changed his plans when he saw the Democrat actions.

I did not know she was diagnosed as Type I.

That is not good. At all. Were it me, i'd be like "to hell with work y'all, I'm gonna go live life while it lasts".

And get right with the Lord.

Thanks for sharing.

I guess I'll never understand why anyone of that age still works. Time spent with others instead of family ? Time not spent doing what ever the hell you want ?

A pro-Trump artery block, sent by angels, will incapacitate Ginsburg in 2020, setting up a ruckus election year that will see the Nazi rats annihilated at their own special Stalingrad, here in America. The wailing will be quite loud.

So Ginsberg or Breyer or both retire sometime in 2020 and the Dems scream about the court as their Nov strategy...

I full expect Trump to name a total of 5 if not 6 justices to the court by the end of his second term.

2 already.. Ginsberg, Breyer, Thomas and possibly Sotomayor.
