Awful. I expected the limo to be in much worse shape, considering everyone was killed. So sad.

Me too. I still can’t fathom 18 people ALL being killed. It wasn’t torn in half. It didn’t burn. It was going fast, but not THAT fast. Very sad.

Thanks for the link.
Here's what we know about the limo's passengers, according to the New York Times and other reports:
- The celebration was for Amy Steenburg's 30th birthday.
- The limousine was rented by Axel Steenburg's for his wife's birthday. Axel and Amy Steenburg, from Amsterdam, were married in June. They both died in the crash.
- Mary Dyson, Amy Steenburg's sister, and Mary's husband, Rob Dyson, died in the crash.
- Allison King, Amy Steenburg's sister, died in the crash.
- Abby Jackson, Amy Steenburg's sister, and Abby's husband, Adam Jackson, died in the crash. Abby Jackson was a teacher in the Amsterdam School District, according to the The Times Union. The couple left behind two daughters, a toddler and a 4 year old, the newspaper reported.
- Rich Steenburg, Axel Steenburg's brother, was killed in the crash. The brothers worked for GlobalFoundries, a foundry that produces semiconductors, according to the New York Times.
- Erin McGowan and Shane McGowan died in the crash. Rocco Semprivio, Erin's stepfather, told the New York Times that the couple married in June.
- Amanda Halse and her boyfriend, Patrick Cushing, were killed in the crash. The couple had been dating for about a year, Karina Halse, Amanda's sister, told Good Morning America.

A year 2001 limo? Who in the hell keeps such old crap as rentals? Most rental companies have a planned service life for their vehicles, which I think is something like 3 years or so, then auctions them off.
That vehicle sounds like a “down & outer” special.
I feel sorry for the people that were killed, but if they knew it was in poor shape, they should have opted for something safer. Poor judgement.

Those modified stretch limos look so unsafe. How well do the brakes work? How can you maneuver them? Plus, as pointed out above the seats are along the sides, meaning the seat belts don’t protect in a front end collision.

Awful. I expected the limo to be in much worse shape, considering everyone was killed. So sad. Can't see the front. Sounds like no braking, 60+mph straight into an embankment - instant stop. Forceful enough for tires to come off hubs so not hard to imagine the force the passengers had endured when thrown forward, blunt force injuries.

. It was going fast, but not THAT fast60mph to 0 in a dead stop. Passengers unrestrained. If tires can separate from wheel hub with 5-8 hardened steel bolts, imagine what that might do to a neck. Tragic.
