He had quite the work ethic and all things considered, its reasonable.
A stationary engineer likely doesnt do anything but call in other union people to make adjustments or repairs. I seriously dont think NYC got their moneys worth out of this.
Yes, 78 hours/week for 52 weeks in a row...
Not many Americans work that many long hours.
If he was really working and not just on cell phone chatting, he well deserves it.
I disagree. It's not reasonable. I know a lot of internists and pediatricians who work those hours, went to school for many years - then post-graduate training, save lives, and don't make half that.
It is just hard for me to believe your work quality is good if you are working 6 days a week for 12 hour stretches.
Hang on! He's a New York City sewer worker (as in "don't kill the job") and he makes more than the President of the United States and 95% of this nation's heart surgeons!!!
Please tell me you're joking!
He had quite the work ethic and all things considered, its reasonable.

Sorry but, for government employees, ON THE CLOCK does NOT EQUAL WORKING. This is an inexcusable scam and ripoff of the taxpayers.
DEP is a politicized, deep Leftist, swamp department. Ideologues cover for each other, real union ethos. A major question is whether he worked all those hours. It's possible, but 6 12-hour days per week plus another 6 hours on Sundays all year--that's a lot of hours, and would need to be documented and explained.
The manager should be asking, "Was this the most efficient way to do what you did?"
