In a few days I will be leaving the public discourse I’ve participated in for now over a decade and be joining one of the finest and most noble organizations in human history. I will be direct commissioned as an active-duty First Lieutenant JAG Officer, a military lawyer and prosecutor, in the United States Army.
All the freedoms we cherish, all the rights we hold, the laws of the United States and our very Constitution itself, are upheld only because men and women are constantly willing to fight, to take up arms, to risk life and limb, to protect those God-given gifts on this imperfect Earth.
At a time when fewer Americans are serving than ever before, when our political polarization is leading us to see each other more as ‘enemies’ than fellow countrymen, we need a broader cultural and spiritual return to the values that have held our country together over the centuries and have led it to be the most powerful, righteous, and prosperous nation the world has ever known.

Great. Another REMF officer. Don’t be too upset if the troops treat you differently than they treat their own officers.
My grandson leaves for the Army on Tuesday. He follows three generations of Air Force Blue. His great great grandfather was an Army general. We are proud of all who serve,

Don't be so harsh, Captain. I don't know what kind of captain you are, but you obviously don't know about how much power a properly trained JAG officer can bring to your leadership efforts.
I do. And being "treated differently" isn't a bad thing. I realized the difference, having the need for a couple of Navy JAG officers while on active duty during the Gulf war.

Exactly. We call them REMF’s. Has he had any prior service?
I had a chaplain visit myself and several great SF NCO’s on the ortho ward at Womack Army Hospital, Ft Bragg, NC in 1969. One had been a recon one zero in my unit, had been stitched by an AK 47 from arm to arm across the chest, and; he ordered a white SPC 5 to leave him where he lay. SFC Land or Lamb was black and quite a trooper. He had lost the use of both arms and hands. His wife feed him every day. The other NCO was the SFC who told me about SOG in late 67. My old A team NCOIC/team SGT. would have his wife bring SFC Henry a new bottle of vodka every day. She carried the empty out in her purse. I asked my NCO friends years later if they recalled him. They darn sure did. The preacher was a fine man who had seen combat.
