I frankly don’t care if they like us, as long as they FEAR us!
Which one? The tall, stupid, evil one, or the short, stupid, evil one with the ovaries.
The British people are eternally grateful for Trump. their liveried betters, not so much.
Exactly. My theory on that is that:
- for commercial (not philosophically justified) reasons, journalism is about bad news - particularly, bad news about American society. Journalism is negative about society, knowingly.
- Yet journalism claims to be objective, which logically could only be true if negativity is objectivity.
- The conceit that negativity is objectivity is cynicism. Ergo, journalism is cynical about American society.
- Cynicism towards A is naiveté towards not A. Thus, cynicism is not simply extreme skepticism, it is unbalanced skepticism.
- As the first page of Paines Common Sense makes clear, the term society has been distorted into a synonym for government but that makes no more sense than, in Lincolns terms, calling a tail a leg and then claiming that a dog has 5 legs. In fact, they are near opposites - society being a blessing, and government being (at best) a necessary evil.
- American mainstream journalism is cynical about American society and naive about government.
- And so is any Democrat, or any other socialist.
- America has "a free press but - because in part of the Associated Press in particular and wire services generally - American presses are not independent. They admit they are associated. It is a massive violation of the Sherman AntiTrust Act. And also, arguably, RICO.
What is your take on the view of the average German citizen?
I know they loved Obama, what is their view of Pres. Trump?
I can’t make heads or tails of modern German thinking? Nearest I can come to it is they wish to commit suicide to atone for the sins of their grandparents, so are willing to tolerate invasion by Muslim fanatics. They must hate Trump because he’s trying to talk them off the ledge. If he comes any closer, they’ll jump. But that can’t be right.
As to the question: average view of a German on President Trump?
You have to understand the amount of biased nature with Channel One/Two (the two public TV networks). Since the primary season of 2016, both networks have been totally anti-Trump. Their theme has let up somewhat over the past year...but the public has been blasted with this message.
So you turn to the working-class German guy, and around fifty to seventy percent of them (my number) frankly don’t care, and Trump’s negativity or positive stuff doesn’t matter. They’ve got their own worries (housing cost, increased crime, diesel car woes, taxation, etc). These people watch more of the non-public TV networks (commercial TV). The commercial networks have more or less a neutral view on Trump...they tend to just report news and not get all biased.
If you go hang out with intellectuals (Germans with college degrees), they are hyped up and feel that Trump is utter chaos, and simply not intellectual like themselves. These are the people who tend to watch public TV networks.
My son (German in nature and late 20s) hasn’t watched a single hour of public TV in twelve years. You find a lot of younger folks (under age 30) who’ve given up on public TV and this biased nature of news. Some of them wouldn’t mind getting a Trump-like character to lead Germany.
The only area that I think Trump really rattled their cages on was the threat of tariffs on German cars to be imported into the US. That got a lot of coverage. Course, then it got out that the German authorities had a tariff on US cars for decades. This Iran ‘treaty’ business? That got negative coverage because a fair number of German companies had deals lined up and sales ready to go with Iran. They desperately wanted those deals to go through.
So if you bumped into a German, and assessed their educational background, you can guess what position they hold on Trump/Obama. It makes little sense, other than suggesting that intellectual folks are more closed-minded than regular people.
The rest of the nations are so used to having a playing field tilted against the USA. Now they are upset because Trump is making them play on a more level playing field. BOO HOO
A year ago I had a long conversation with my SIL, a German who lives in Eschenbach, regarding Pres. Trump looking out for America's best interest as he should be. As the President of America that is his job. She had a difficult time grasping that.
I enjoy your schnitzelrepublic.blog. Thanks.
Nikki Haley mentioned in an interview that world leaders were recently falling over each other at the UN trying to get a picture with President Trump. I suspect this poll is pure propaganda.
I have a nephew, American raised in Germany, married to a sweet, smart, German girl. She grew up with family that owned restaurants and hotels - German entrepreneurs. My nephew and niece now have their own restaurant and hotel, are in their 40's. When talking to them about the muslim invasion on Germany - their home where they are raising their two sons - they have this glass eyed look.
It’s a poll of the hoi polloi, not the UN diplomats, who are like sailboats, getting in front of the prevailing wind. I can believe the international public don’t like Trump. That’s fine. They don’t vote. In the end, they’ll come to love him, I think. If not, ok. Big deal.
Isaiah 34:14 The wild beasts of the desert
shall also meet with the jackals,
And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion;
Also the night creature shall rest there,
And find for herself a place of rest.

Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!
Yeah, when you stop giving them Money, they don’t like you anymore. They are nothing but pissed off Prostitutes.
