The Supreme Court nominee was questioned by local authorities in 1985 following a bar fight after a UB40 concert. Following a report in The New York Times that revealed embattled Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh was questioned by the New Haven Police Department following a 1985 bar fight after a UB40 concert, a spokesperson for the band provided Billboard with a statement about the incident Tuesday.
According to the report, Kavanaugh was an undergraduate at Yale when he was accused of throwing ice onto another man, whom a friend said Kavanaugh believed was the singer of the reggae-pop band.
Obviously, there must have been an assault because the police were called and a report was filed, but this is a case of mistaken identity and has nothing to do with UB40," a spokesperson for UB40, founding member guitarist/vocalist Robin Campbell, tells Billboard. (Singer Ali Campbell left the group in 2008.)

Red, red wine ...
Uh, no Robin, it's not "obvious."
Ever hear of people calling the police because the fast food joint got their order wrong? Ever hear of a false police report? Was anyone adjudicated in a court of law for assault?
What an ignorant thing to say.
Throwing ice. The hugh manatee.
Have the Smiths or Depeche Mode been contacted for an official statement?
This was a terrible band. I would have thrown much more than ice at them.
UB40: “We can neither confirm nor deny that Judge Kavanaugh was at our concert. We have no comment about the charge that our music ‘set Brett off’ and was a contributing factor to a bar fight later on in the evening in which he was involved. Please consult our legal team for any other information.”
“Oh, and we still think we’re better than Human League.”
You are lucky, although sad to say AZ has changed much to my dismay.
Border jumpers and an influx from CA, let alone our education system has dismantled much of what AZ was.
Another “mistaken identity” charge about what Kavanaugh supposedly did....sad that the band got enough crap sliding their way, as Dems tried to get them to tell a tragic and lurid tale of his violence, that they had to make a public statement to get it to stop...maybe Ford can perform memory-recall and fake scenario-building hypnosis and get them to remember that he really went after one of their guys, who was afraid for his life, and maybe Judge was there laughing and egging him on....
