California becomes first state to require women on corporate boards
The Independent (UK) via Yahoo ^ | October 1st, 2018 | Maya Oppenheim

California has become the first state in the US to require publicly traded companies to include women on their board of directors.

Governor Jerry Brown signed the new measure – which necessitates at least one female director on the board of each California-based public operation by the end of 2019 – into law on Sunday.

Firms will need up to three female directors by the end of 2021, depending on the size of their boards.

Hundreds of companies will be affected by the law and those who violate it can be fined $100,000 (£76,600) for a first violation and $300,000 (£229,900) for a second.

A fourth of publicly held corporations with headquarters in California do not have any women on their boards of directors.

Democrat State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson – who authored the bill – said getting more women on boards will make firms more successful.

Why stop at just women? Why not come up with the ideal demographic mix for your utopian society, then require these percentages on the boards? Wait, why stop with corporate boards? Apply these everywhere! I can see it now... "Sorry Mr. Thunder, but our neighborhood needs another gray Buddhist. So you'll either have to move or convert and start ..."

And yes liberal lurkers, this law is exactly that ludicrous. In a few years, when CA based businesses are struggling, even failing - this is why. This kind of feel good BS. Guess what, the real world isn't about fairness or your ideals. The real world cares about results. And when you start putting people in positions just to check a box, rather than based on merit... Well, someone else will come along and surpass you, easily.

How about minorities, we should have one of every flavor in all boards. How about poor people?

As a woman this makes me sick. I've always been a leader and often the female boss bossing around the guys (usually twice my size lol and running the big show).

Anything I receive in this world I've earned on my own thank you very much.

Corporate America is cut throat no doubt. But it is for everyone that wants power. Women--nor any specific race--need charity at the top thank you very much. If we're there we've earned it (until you liberals MADE people take us).

This is an insult and doesn't bode well for respect for an earned seat or anything other that a label of 'token' female in the future.

These is an easy one for me. You move corporate headquarters to Nevada. Then California laws do imply. Easy

We clearly need a law stating that each corporate board include at least one ex-member of the California legislature.

Now every qualified woman sitting on a board, or who will sit on a board will get an asterisk next to her name:

*(diversity hire)

#2. Fascist Gov. Moonbeam, in his best imitation of Mel Brooks, loves to say, “It’s great to be the Fuhrer”!

With one board member for each gender (57) plus one for each race of each gender (black, red, yellow, brown, white), that means a minimum of 285 board member per company!

57 * 5 = 285

However, the Democrat-controlled confirmation process will take longer than the age of the Earth.

I can see it now. A board vote to decide who the designated female is...Will the position come with more pay?

there are more “bleeding” hearts in local, state and fed govt and in the dem party politics throughout the nation. Now try and tell me all of that isn’t more f’up than ever...

So how is this going to help corporate America by the communist state edict of “bleeding” women on boards? Not referring to women who earn it here they are equals...I just hate the polices or mandated numbers / affirmative action whether it be for race gender or what!

Rmember when what gender you were didn’t make any difference?

Libtards seem to forget that.

Where have they been demanding more male teachers, more male nurses, more male college students, and any other area there’s predominately more women?

Under federalism, states like California would be perfectly free to require things such as this. The federal government would have no say.

And when people fled CA for the whack job it has become, it might moderate and reverse such insanity.

Resolution: Move the business out of California or reincorporate in a neighboring state and move corporate headquarters only. I’d rydo it just to piss of the kalicommies. Thumb your noses at them.
Side benefit: you’d only pay corporate state taxes in the state your incorporated in. I’m sure Arizona or Nevada would be cheaper than Kalipornia.
