One question I have pondered over the last few weeks is, why are the Democrats so determined to block Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court? Realistically, he is the most moderate nominee they are likely to see from the Trump administration. If his nomination fails, the president will most likely appoint Amy Barrett, who is secure against #MeToo allegations and is both more conservative and younger than Kavanaugh. So what is the point?
To some extent, the Democrats’ bizarre smear campaign against Kavanaugh is explicable on short-term political grounds. The Democrats’ crazed base demands that they #Resist, so resist they will, whether it does any good or not. But I think there is something deeper and more sinister at work.

They think it will be delayed till after the mid terms and they will be in control. They may delay it but they will not take the senate.
The dems intend to delay past the elections and, if they retake the Senate, hold the seat open for two years.
Well duhhh, they think they are going to win the mid-terms and then they will block all of Trump’s nominees.

Yes, that and what the writer here is saying, it’s both. Democrats aren’t famous for solving problems, they are famous for “fighting” against horrible people, which means everyone but them.
Understand the intentions of your enemy - even obscured ones - and you can thwart them. Why is the question dumb?
They probably think they’ll take the Senate and shut down anyone Trump nominates.
Of course, Kavanaugh himself, alluded to that when he said that by smearing him no good person would put themselves on the line to work in government. Which is what the swamp wants.
