President Trump on Friday asked the FBI to investigate sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh after Senate Republicans agreed to a one-week investigation, temporarily delaying his nomination to the Supreme Court.
Ive ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaughs file. As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week, Trump said in the statement released by the White House.
The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday afternoon requested that Trump instruct the FBI to conduct the supplemental investigation after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and others called for the move.
Flake said the FBI should conduct an investigation that is limited in scope and time, and said it should focus solely on credible accusations against Kavanaugh and last no longer than a week.
Multiple senators, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkwski (R-Alaska), Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) soon followed.
Flake, after outlining his call for the supplemental FBI investigation, joined other Republicans on the Judiciary Committee on Friday in voting to send Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate.
Republicans are set to hold a procedural vote on Kavanaugh's nomination on Saturday, though a final vote set for early next week is likely to be delayed to allow the FBI investigation to wrap up.
Democrats had been calling for such an investigation for days and received GOP support following a rollercoaster day on Capitol Hill on Thursday, when Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Judiciary panel.
Ford delivered gripping testimony outlining her allegation that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to remove her clothes during a house gathering in 1982 when she and Kavanaugh were high schoolers.
Kavanaugh, who has flatly denied the allegations, offered a forceful defense of himself during the hearing. Speaking after Ford, the nominee called his confirmation process a "national disgrace" and insisted he had never sexually assaulted anyone.
Trump on Friday afternoon called Ford a "credible" witness and described her testimony as "compelling," but also praised Kavanaugh's performance and told reporters at the White House that he had given no thought to having another nominee.
The ONLY way Kavanaugh will be vindicated is if Ford is destroyed in every way. The outrageousness of her history needs to be exposed and broadcasted.
The FBI needs to QUICKLY schedule their interview with Ford and QUICKLY ACTUALLY DO THE ACTUAL INTERVIEW. This is because I actually expect her attorneys (more accurately described as her HANDLERS) to keep her inaccessible.
Yes- he- did-
No, Strzok, Richard Blumenthal, Chris Coons, and Deborah Katz are busy doing a photoshoot for the new Legion of Super Villains.
This isn’t the “Art of the Deal.” This is the “Art of War,”

IIRC...

This is all scripted out. Have patience.
Oh to be a mouse! (When they interview Ford).
Gives our side time to uncover more inconvenient “facts” about this woman and the people behind this attempted coup.
Well, at least it's Trump (and not Rosenstein) who is writing the order.
I believe how ever this turns out it is going to energize the conservative base
*************
Maybe but it could also have the opposite effect. People are sick of watching this good man and his family being abused, defamed and harassed. Its a sickening, vile and disgusting process that got totally out of control. Many will view it as another Republican failure.
The glass may be half empty this time.
Kavanaugh is a big time GOPe guy. We are seeing once again how ineffective the GOPe is and has always been. Hopefully this is the twilight of GOPe folly and we can all move forward from here with nothing but MAGA Trump Republicans.
I want the FBI investigation to include who leaked the Ford letter to the media. I want the FBI investigation to include if the Ford letter Dianne F said was original was actually written solely by Dr. Ford. I want the FBI investigation to track the money that has been funding the attorneys helping Dr. Ford.
Follow the money! Follow the lies.
Good point.
Someone said the Republicans see it as process. The Democrats see it as war.
An FBI rookie could do a better job of interviewing Ford than that useless prosecutor the GOP hired. They can confront her about all the contradictions in her testimony without having to worry about the political
Optics. Hopefully there are still a few honest agents left in the FBI.
Democrats win as the minority. Republicans cave once again. We should be used to it by now.
This
It will be limited in scope, to only these three liars. Other paid liars will claim to be at a few of the rape parties and claim he was there. Now that they have his calendars, they will pick a few opens night, or another year. Also other claims, the FBI will not be investigating, will come out in the MSM.. These new claims will give cover for Collins, Flake & others who do not want to vote him in. Other senators will be afraid to put a “rapist” on court...
This was all planned in the event the Ford story wasn’t enough. The dems were sure her rehearsed performance would be good enough. They had no idea how strong Kavanaugh would be. Feinstein & the dems already have the other liars ready to go. They may wait until later in the week, so there will not be enough time for the FBI to investigate... then demand more time to investigate these new “credible” charges.
Jeff Flake just killed the Kavanaugh investigation.
Im thinking much of the groundwork for this supplemental investigation might have been done in the past two weeks. Who knows? It mightve even turned up dirt on Ford, Katz, or Feinstein. One of the secrets to success in business that Pres. Trump knows well Im sure is never ask questions you dont already know the answer to. Probably true in many law enforcement situations too.
Perhaps the FBI could investigate the ‘therapist’ who ‘recovered’ the memories and report on other false memories and families they have destroyed.
Flake could have moved it out of committee with a "yes" vote.
If there was some committee quorum rule preventing that, then the Republicans on the committee could have changed the rule.
Beyond that, Mitch doesn't need a committee vote to move the vote to the floor.
Flake isn't doing us any favors and he isn't on our side.
