An Arizona man who fired at police officers after allegedly stealing a bottle of milk from a Walmart store was fatally shot when officers returned fire, authorities said.
An employee of the Walmart in Peoria, near Phoenix, had called police around 6 p.m. Monday to report the stolen milk, according to FOX 10 of Phoenix.
The suspect was later identified as Michael John Stout, 20, of Peoria. Responding officers said they saw a man matching the employee’s description of Stout standing outside the store’s garden center, the Arizona Republic reported.
After parking the vehicle, one officer got out. Police said Stout fired in their direction, striking multiple rounds into their vehicle. The officer in the vehicle got out and fired back, while the other officer fired from inside the vehicle, police said.
The officer’s rounds hit Stout and he fell down, the Republic reported. The officers provided medical assistance to Stout. Police said Stout was transferred to a hospital where he was pronounced dead the following morning, FOX 10 reported.
Investigators discovered Stout had been using a handgun that was stolen from a vehicle on Monday morning. Video footage from the officers’ body-worn cameras was not immediately available.
No one else was injured during the shooting.

That was my take too. What lead to his death was that he shot at them.
Life has only a few simple rules for survival. One is that you always make sure you have superior firepower before shooting at police. It’s just common sense, man. :)
Chances are they knew it was going to end something like this. Every addict's parents wonder if tonight will be the night they get that phone call or the police will finally knock on their door.
Now they can have some peace.

Deliberately misleading headline does!
“Stolen milk” did not lead to his death, “shooting at police” did. Not even mentioned in the headline.
As I was going into the dollar store a large black man came running out with a bunch of merchandise and dollar store employees chasing him and yelling at him. He shoved one of them and she fell to the ground.
I followed him and two blocks later came across a police officer in his car fooling with what looked like his personal phone. I knocked on his window and pointed out the guy and told him that he had just robbed the dollar store. The police officer said, “Can’t you see that I am busy?” I pointed out the guy again and repeated that he had just robbed the dollar store. He replied angrily, “If you don’t stop harassing me, I will arrest you.”
I worked with the police for 25 years and had met other officers just as bad, so I just dropped it. But there are obviously other places where they take this type of thing more seriously.

Well, it all started when he stole some milk. But, yes, the title should have included the fact that he had fired at the officers prior to them shooting him.
