Russia will transfer two to four S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria within the next two weeks, the Russian news website Kommersant reported Tuesday, citing a source familiar with the details. The amount of systems may increase in the future.
The Assad regime will use the systems to defend Syria's coastline and its borders with Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, the report said. According to the official, Russia may end up transferring up to eight systems to Syria, depending on the circumstances.
Meanwhile, Russian outlet Izvestia reported that Moscow is boosting its electronic warfare systems in Syria, which were brought to the country on Monday on board an Illusion-76 cargo plane to Khmeimim air base in Latakia, and will be used by Russian forces stationed there. Russian President Vladimir Putin notified Syrian President Bashar Assad about the shipment in a phone call Monday, the report added.

F-35s have been delivered to the IAF, and the claim is that they’ve been successfully used in combat operations.
If any S-300 installations blow up unexpectedly, the F-35s would be my guess as to the reason...

Unless the drones are stealthy, the S-300s will just shoot those down.
The Israelis have small diameter bombs (SDBs) for their F-35s, which are precision guided and have over 65 mi. range. It’s extremely unlikely that the S-300 radar can get a front or side detection on an F-35 from further than a few miles.
A four plane flight could launch 24 SDBs in short order, overwhelming the S-300’s ability to respond.

Yep, those are publicity photos for the systems set up to protect Russian aircraft and personnel, they are always manned by Russian Military personnel, and they are not available to defend Syrian Military or assets, theoretically to avoid conflicts with Western Troops in Syria.
The S300 systems now being deployed will also be manned by Russian Military personnel, but will defend Syrian Military and assets, thus targeting them will involve targeting Russian Military Personnel.
That's the rub.

Exactly, the recent screw up by the Syrians operating their own S200 system (purchased from Russia decades ago) is why the Russians keep hold of the higher tech stuff.
They claim that they will train the Syrians, but that will take at least 18 months and more likely 3 years, if ever.

Since then Syrians are the primary operators of the S200.
Certainly the Russians expect the Syrians to coordinate closely but it is unlikely that they have assigned Russian Personnel to all the S200 emplacements, as they cannot defend S200 from Western assets.
Therefore, I suspect that the S200 that downed the Russian turboprop was Syrian manned.
Russian operators would not have used the wrong imaging radar at the wrong range, and would have been more aware of S200 countermeasures weakness.
