Russia will transfer two to four S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria within the next two weeks, the Russian news website Kommersant reported Tuesday, citing a source familiar with the details. The amount of systems may increase in the future.
The Assad regime will use the systems to defend Syria's coastline and its borders with Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, the report said. According to the official, Russia may end up transferring up to eight systems to Syria, depending on the circumstances.
Meanwhile, Russian outlet Izvestia reported that Moscow is boosting its electronic warfare systems in Syria, which were brought to the country on Monday on board an Illusion-76 cargo plane to Khmeimim air base in Latakia, and will be used by Russian forces stationed there. Russian President Vladimir Putin notified Syrian President Bashar Assad about the shipment in a phone call Monday, the report added.

To defend them from *your* Russian buddies.

President Trump called Russia a destabilizing influence in Europe and the Middle East, and urged it to join the community of responsible nations, in his strongest remarks yet against the regime of Vladimir Putin, whom he is scheduled to meet Friday in Hamburg for the first time.
His remarks in Warsaws Krasinski Square, which marks the 1944 Warsaw uprising against the Nazis, came after the U.S. agreed to sell Patriot missiles to Poland. The president also used the opportunity to reiterate the NATO commitment to mutual defense, a declaration he did not make during the NATO summit in May, prompting consternation among U.S. allies wary of Russias ambitions.
To those who would criticize our tough stance, I would point out that the United States has demonstratednot merely with its words but with its actionsthat we stand firmly behind Article 5, the mutual-defense commitment, Trump said Thursday. Words are easy, but actions are what matters. And for its own protection, Europe, and you know this, everybody knows this, everybody has to know this, Europe must do more.
Trump has repeatedly said NATO members must spend more on defensea position in line with past U.S. administrations. But he has been criticized because he appeared to suggest U.S. commitment to mutual defense was predicated on its allies defense spending. ...

Eight systems is a significant presence, and would allow engagement of cruise missile swarms, as well as piloted aircraft, so a stress test may be a better description, and apparently the S400s will remain in place defending Russians.
The political component might be described as "fed up".
Field test for the Israelis too. Maybe even targets. If one of these systems targets Israeli fighters, they too become targets. It might be a good test to watch.
Are there any F-22s or F-35s in the region that we can have test out their systems? (Hopefully send the Russians to the scrap yard to start over?)
When Donald Trump and I observe that, as Ive said, in Syria, in Iran, in Ukraine, that the small and bullying leader of Russia has been stronger on the world stage than this administration, thats stating painful facts. Thats not an endorsement of Vladimir Putin thats an indictment of the weak and feckless leadership of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
PENCE: Weve just got to have American strength on the world stage. When Donald Trump becomes president of the United States, the Russians and other countries in the world will know theyre dealing with a strong American president.
PENCE: What were dealing with is the you know, theres an old proverb that says the Russian bear never dies, it just hibernates.
And the truth of the matter is, the weak and feckless foreign policy of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has awakened an aggression in Russia that first appeared a few years ago with their move in Georgia, now their move into Crimea, now their move into the wider Middle East.

Although much improved, the S300 was deployed in 1979 under the old Soviet Union. It would appear for now anyway, the S400s stay in Russia proper and Kaliningrad.
God Bless and protect the IDF!
God Bless and protect the IDF!
Not our problem. Get our troops home & let the Syrian govt. finish off the Jihadist terrorists.
It is unlikely there are more as the purpose is to protect Russians.
That means Southern Syria is at long range for the 400s.
That would be a good place for them.
This deployment is primarily a response to Israel. It would be a good idea not to be near those "Moderate" Syrian "Rebels" in the future.
Soon to be 8 pieces of scrap metal compliments of the Israeli air force.
So Trump himself paved the way for Mueller probe. He ill advisedly became Ayatollah John McCain’s lap dog.
Mike Pence is a fake Christian, he had better stop throwing his monkey wrench in foreign policies.
Target practice for Israeli AF.
I’d wager that the Air Plan to destroy these missiles is already being made operational!
Thanks, Comrade granada.
