Amy Chua denies telling female students to be 'model-like' for Brett Kavanaugh

Amy Chua, the Yale law professor and best-selling author who endorsed supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, has denied allegations that she instructed female law students to exude a “model-like” femininity when interviewing for clerkships with the judge.

“Everything that is being said about the advice I give to students applying to Brett Kavanaugh – or any judge – is outrageous, 100% false, and the exact opposite of everything I have stood for and said for the last 15 years,” Chua said in a letter that was sent to the Yale Law School community.

The Guardian and the Huffington Post published articles last week that alleged that Chua...told students that Kavanaugh liked his clerks to have a “certain look”. In one case, the advice was so off-putting to one Yale law student that she declined to pursue a clerkship with the judge, according to a source who spoke to the Guardian.

and for those who can read between the lines and foretell the future, there’s a reason that Roberts is specifically referenced by the Guardian, and a reason for the choice of words, ‘feeder judge’. Heads up.

Steady on, Deplorables!

So what if she did?
A few decades ago, a lot of girls went to Charm School, middle and upper class. To ‘be like a model’ meant to move with poise, grace and understated confidence. It did not mean
‘Pole Dance’ lessons 101. or Stepford Wife Workshops.

Odds are the advice was meant to be wearing what is appropriate for the decorum of the job, not slinky stockings and tight skirts.

I agree. So what if it were true? Looks are a factor in hiring. Human nature can't be totally overcome.

With that said, the whole story is pretty ridiculous as Yale Law likely has very few women who could pull off "model like" even if they wanted to. If Brett K or any federal judge wanted to hire "model like" clerks, Yale would be the wrong place. No law school student body is likely to be mistaken for the cast of America's Next Top Model, but you'd probably have a bit better luck hiring from a school with more ex-sorority types (e.g., maybe USC, Florida, LSU, etc.)

“Model-like?” Is Stephanie Kirchgaessner referring to women who don’t look so big that they’re hurting and feeling like they’re about to die?

I’m not a woman but do know what it’s like to quickly gain weight and get fat with many hours in office work while lacking enough time or a good place for much exercise. Makes a person feel like they’re going to die.

If I am working in an office and getting too fat, I’m better off quitting to take a job that involves more physical activity and keeping me alive.

Oh, “model” as differentiated from trendy like this? ;-)

The Dems go full scorched earth. They’ll defame anyone to support their fake narrative.

Even if true that would be this lady’s projection. She may have thought that being an old fashioned guy that he would prefer a certain look, mannerisms etc. Unless Kavanaugh asked for that then it says nothing about him at all! Sadly most of Dem supporters have absolutely no idea about or experience in logical reasoning, just raving hysteria!

Even if a dozen Yale Law students make similar claims against Amy Chua, I will find it very difficult to believe after (law) classes were canceled so the students could protest Kavanaugh.

Nope. Wrong message for young professional women.

May indeed have improved their chances of getting a position with him however, as certain men (like Trump) do put a lot on appearance. Trump notably comments on his male aides’ appearance about as much as his female aides, at least.

How the hell is this a “news” story?

What idiot doesn’t know to look their best, and be on their best behavior when applying for a job...ANY JOB?

Lib journalists would write a headline about someone taking a leak first thing in the morning.

I guess so many (unemployed) “journalism degrees” are out there, anything is a “news” story.

Odds are they were told to dress professionally. Didn’t there use to be women’s magazines that were geared toward the professional woman with business attire fashion? I’m sure I remember some even though now the attire pushed is only suitable for pole dancing. Perhaps to some people dressing like a model doesn’t always mean looking like a slut. A perfect example is our lovely FLOTUS that is a model who wears elegant and professional clothes that always match the occasion.

my neighbors daughter is truly adorable, like a pixie. (early 30’s). She just came back to visit and has full tattoo sleeves.
I can’t believe she made this decision to mar up her body like that.
1 or 2 tattoos are one thing but this is over the top, IMHO.

I don’t care if all of this is true.

These people are operating at the highest levels.
They need every legal advantage possible if they are to be successful.

Being talented is great.
Being talented and being disarmingly attractive is even better.
