Full title: Dunkin' Donuts is dropping the 'Donuts' from its name, despite the fact it helped invent the word 'donut'
Dunkin' Donuts is dropping the "Donuts" from its name.
On Tuesday the chain announced that in January it would officially change its name to simply "Dunkin'." Tests of the shortened name over the past year have inspired backlash, but apparently did little to persuade executives not to make the change official.
The decision is especially notable because Dunkin' Donuts played a crucial role in putting the word "donut" in the dictionary.
Dunkin' Donuts and Mister Donut, two chains founded by brothers-in-law in the mid-1950s, are some of the first known uses of the term "donut" as opposed to the traditional "doughnut."

This will fail just like IHOB.
Dunkin’. Oh, great, a basketball store!
Soon to be known as "Krispy".
The image, the color, and the font, are their trademark...nobody reads “Dunkin’ Donuts” to know what the store and the brand are all about.
They have good coffee, we buy it to use at home.
Yep, the donuts are awful and so is the other stuff they sell, except the coffee. When we get an urge for donuts, there is a little place in Joliet called Homecuts that make dunkin donuts taste like cardboard. Homecut’s day old donuts are still great, and if you go there, you can watch the donuts being made by hand thru the big glass wall.
Well, he’s out of town. Wait until he meets with Rosenstein.
DDBR.
As long as I had lots of good, cold and delicious milk, OK.
Maybe they can get rid of Dunkin’ too and just call the company Nuts.
You forgot Dunkin’ Turnips.
We have one called Country Kitchen——the best donuts EVER——and they are just a couple of hundred yards away from DDs.

Drunkin grownups.....
Master Blaster runs Bartertown.
Maybe dropping the “Donuts” will mean less ink wasted and the end of climate change. :P
It makes sense for Dunkin Donuts to drop the "Donuts" from their name because they are not just about donuts anymore. They have bagels, sandwiches, coffee, muffins and even hot (and cold) cider.
I think they will continue to be a smashing success and will further build upon their 10,000+ stores (worldwide).
It is a glorious company with much potential for further growth.
It’s a Millenial thing. This is like when La Boulangerie became La Bou. Pointless, but the younger generation wants to make companies cater to them specifically. They don’t want to shop at a place named where their Dad shopped. It has to be modified somehow. Truncating is the easiest modification.
Reduce their carbon footprint? Okay.
