The Democratic candidate for the 17th District Congressional seat, April Freeman, has died.
Her husband, David, posted about her passing on Facebook. Her cause of death was not released.
Freeman, a film and television producer who lives near Fort Myers, won the Democratic congressional primary and would have faced State Sen. Steube in November in the race for the 17th District Congressional seat being vacated by Tom Rooney.
According to her website, Freeman was a mother and grandmother with two children and two grandchildren who graduated from Yale's Women’s Campaign School through Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut in 2013.
She had nearly two decades of experiencing working on feature films, television series, and reality show projects. She authored a series of children's books and was working on a self-help book and a political guide for women.
She moved to Florida more than a decade ago and was running a platform of defending the community, seniors, children, veterans and the environment.

The district’s current representative, Republican Thomas Rooney, is not seeking re-election. With the exception of Rooney, the district had been held by Democrats since it was created in 1983, although it was re-drawn after the 2010 census.

The Democrats don’t need a live candidate. Democrat Mel Carnahan died in 2000 in the midst of his campaign for the U.S. Senate. He was elected. The Weekend at Bernie’s election.
