U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees the special counsel investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 presidential election, headed to the White House on Monday amid reports he would be leaving the post.

A source told Reuters that Rosenstein had not been fired but had spent the weekend contemplating whether he should resign after a New York Times report said in 2017 he had suggested secretly recording President Donald Trump.

Just saw this. Interesting. Why bring him in for a meeting if you are going to fire him anyway? Trump has refused to meet with him in the past, so why meet with him now? I doubt RR asked for the meeting.

Perhaps Trump is just letting RR know that he has all the evidence he needs to bury him as treasonous. This meeting is a formality and he is requesting that he just resign and/or help out by outing those he worked with.

Obviously speculating here, but it looks like this may be RR’s only chance to ‘assist’ before he gets destroyed.

If this is true, then Trump will meet with Sessions to discuss next steps first. It will be Sessions who fires Rosenstein anyway....or forces him into resigning.

I think the game being played out is that they intend to investigate Rod, like they did the FBI guys, because of the hint that he was going to wear a wire within the White House. You can figure 90 days minimum, and he’d be moved to a non-functional job while this is carried out. Naturally the next guy down (the GOP guy)...would step up and handle the Mueller investigation and revamp all of the understandings.

You can imagine the value of Sessions in this scenario...his value to the Democratic agenda goes down the drain real quick.

And for Rod’s charges? Just to suggest you might do something like this wire business....you’d lose your clearance. With the newspaper laying this business out on Rod...they had to get some favor in return from the White House.

He is at the regular meeting that Sessions would attend because Sessions is on the way back from Alabama.

It all on hold until Trump returns from the UN General Assembly

ROSENSTEIN: "Fire me."
KELLY: "No."
ROSENSTEIN: "Then I'm resigning."
KELLY: "No, you're not. Get back to work. The Great Orange Donkey-Kong will see you on Thursday."
ROSENSTEIN: "Uh ... OK. WTF?"
