In the last election my Mom voted in (pushing 80), she voted for Bill Clinton. I asked her why. She said, “Bob Dole has mean eyebrows!”
Apart from Ronald Reagan, she never voted for a Republican in her life. Some people will be what they will be.
I don’t think Cruz smashed Irish Bob. I think he was obviously superior in terms of policy, but as always, he comes across as the smart kid in the class talking down. I voted for Cruz in the 2016 primary. I’m now glad he lost. He’s smart. Makes a good senator. But no leadership skills and no charisma.
I’d be thrilled to get to vote for someone as conservative as he is. Won’t happen in Arizona! But his personality is a turn off. If my Mom was still alive, she’d probably vote for Irish Bob because Ted Cruz has a big nose. Or doesn’t smile right.
Happily, the time I spent at Ft Hood in the 90s makes me think most Texans are smarter than my Mom. Good woman, good Mom, but she voted Democrat from FDR on.
Sigh. So it is like Kennedy/Nixon then? (Nixon won among those polled from radio listeners. Kennedy won with TV viewers.)
“In the last election my Mom voted in (pushing 80), she voted for Bill Clinton.”
In 2008 my MIL (90 y.o.) voted for Obama. “I think we should give that nice young black man a chance.” I was disgusted. Didn’t talk to her for a year.
I have a relative who voted for Wendy Davis. He has voted Democrat his whole life, and he voted for Davis for no other reason than she was the candidate that the Democrat Party of Texas farted out that year.
