Rosenstein rips NYT for ‘inaccurate’ story on Trump recordings
The Hill ^ | 09/21/18 | Morgan Chalfant

Posted on 09/21/2018 12:19:41 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is challenging a bombshell story in The New York Times alleging that he discussed secretly recording President Trump last year, calling it “inaccurate” and “factually incorrect.”

Rosenstein in a statement released by the Justice Department also said that there was “no basis” to invoke the 25th Amendment, after the Times reported that he proposed recruiting various Cabinet officials to take such a step in order to remove Trump from office over his unfitness.

“The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” Rosenstein said. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”

The Times, citing anonymous sources, reported Friday afternoon that Rosenstein made the comments in discussions with Justice Department and FBI officials in spring 2017, shortly after Trump fired James Comey as FBI director.

The newpaper reported that Rosenstein proposed secretly recording conversations with Trump in the Oval Office and suggested others interviewing to become FBI director wear a wire.

The article does not allege that Rosenstein actually recorded Trump or followed through on his musings about invoking the 25th Amendment.

A DOJ spokeswoman provided the newspaper with a comment from someone said to be present when Rosenstein made the reported comment about wearing a wire, suggesting the remark was made sarcastically.

The White House initially pinned Trump’s decision to fire Comey on a Justice Department memo written by Rosenstein that criticized the then-FBI director for his handling of the Clinton email investigation.

Rosenstein is said to have been rattled by the events and Trump leaning on his memo to fire Comey, fearing he had been taken advantage of in the process.

According to the Times, Rosenstein’s remarks were documented in part in memos written by Andrew McCabe, the former FBI deputy director who was fired by the Justice Department in March.

Trump later indicated that the Russia investigation previously led by Comey had factored into his decision to remove the FBI chief, and that he would have removed Comey “regardless of recommendation” from Rosenstein.

Rosenstein has at times drawn ire from Trump over his handling of the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The No. 2 Justice Department official is overseeing the probe as a result of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal last year.

Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to spearhead the investigation in May of last year after Trump fired Comey.

Notice that Rosenweasel does not explicitly deny that he suggested, directly or indirectly, that somebody record Trump.

"Has Sessions started leaking to the Slimes?"

It looks more like McCabe is trying to save his bacon.

Why did Rosenstein even bother mention the 25th Amendment in his reply? He could have said NY Times is full of crap in 100 different ways, but he chose this.

His whole statement is really weird but that in particular stands out.

Maybe McCabe.

It is actually pretty rare for someone in Rosenstein’s position to make a comment like this

In politics never believe anything until it has been offically denied.

LOL, Rod just confirmed the NYT story.

An “anonymous source” doesn’t like being the target of “anonymous sources”.

I doubt this is true; it’s based on McCabe’s memos, which are bull.

It’s a non-denial denial. He said that he, personally, did not see behavior that would justify invoking the 25th Amendment. Invoking the 25th Amendment requires the cooperation of the Vice President, currently Mike Pence. First secret agenda is to get Mike Pence to resign, by losing the trust of President Trump. Plus:

I theorize that the White House and President Trump’s phones are all tapped and monitored 24/7. And that the rumors of leaks are false, trying to goad Trump into failing to trust people that Trump should trust. The biggest obvious effect is that good, competent people that might want to work for Trump refuse to put themselves in the crossfire hurricane. So Trump gets no support or doesn’t fire the ones who are back-stabbing.

Note that one year and eight months into the Presidency, Trump cannot fire Sessions because this Senate will not approve of any replacement, so Trump would be stuck with Rosenstein or worse running the DOJ. The DNC knows that they are losing the 2018 election, so are trying to stir up more chaos in the White House to influence public opinion. Plus, after January 1, 2019, under new law President Trump will be able to [REDACTED]. Trust the plan, but not most of the people in and out of the plan.

Note that 36 Republicans and 15 Dhiimorats are leaving. This number is especially high for the Republican party in power. Plus, at least 8 Senators in December 2016 will not be Senators in January 2019. Biggest turnover in decades. Why? The plan.

The corrupt ones in the DOJ and Intelligence Bureaucracy expect (AND WITH CAUSE) that the New York Times will back them in their scams, lies and coups ...

This must have been shocking... to them ... to me ... to all of us who know they're corrupt and dirty and always side with the people who hate us.

This is not fake news. I guarantee you that someone else was debating revealing this rat for who he is, and the NYT sleazes wanted to get ahead of the story.
