Nikki Haley, President Trump's ambassador to the United Nations, said Thursday that The New York Times knew she had not been involved in the purchase of expensive curtains for her New York residence when it printed a story implying she did.
"They knew the facts and they released the story anyway," Haley told Fox News' "The Story."
"I hadn't even taken the job when these curtains were picked out," she said. "We told the reporters that these were the facts."
The Times issued an editor's note at the top of its piece, which was originally titled "Nikki Haley's View of New York is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701."
"An earlier version of this article and headline created an unfair impression about who was responsible for the purchase in question," read the editors' note attached to the article after publication.
"The article should not have focused on Ms. Haley, nor should a picture of her have been used," the note added.
The title was also changed to "State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley's Residence."
Haley told Fox that she appreciated the changes, but there was little that could be done to remedy the misinformation already put out.
"I appreciate the retraction, but that story follows you where ever you go," Haley told Fox. "The damage is done once the story is out."
"All last weekend, wherever I went, people were asking em about my curtains," she recalled.
Conservatives leapt to Haley's defense after the Times piece posted.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) defended Haley and ripped into the story, calling it "an example of the subtle ways media pushes their bias."
No surprise.
every day it is a different hit piece, the two-minute hate
Stalinists lie. Always
What in the heck do 50k curtains look like? 50k????? cost more than my parents first house.
There is no reason for the US to buy 50k curtains because, for example, Europe does.
We should show them we have more common sense than they do by buying US-made curtains at a fraction of the cost.
Calling the left wing media subtle is just another example of the ways Little Marco pushes his bias.
Rubio spends more time on the fence,he’s starting to grow feathers
"We at the New York Times devote our lives to creating unfair impressions, and we are particularly proud to have created this one."
The media should get the story right, but Haley is too hostile to Russia while Donald Trump is trying to keep peace in the world by talking to Putin.
“cost more than my parents first house.”
My father’s first house was $800.00
His second and last was the one we built for $6000.00.
Gee, the New York Times being dishonest? Of course not, and Hitler was Jewish too!
Spot on! I made it a point to read both 1984 and Animal Farm within the last couple years. We’re living both books simutaneously.
I’m surprised that so many Republicans still don’t understand what’s going on. The left do not believe in or fear God. They aren’t restrained by morality or a sense of fairness (I’m speaking generally—there are always exceptions). Winning is all that matters, and they will demonize and destroy anyone who gets in their way no matter how polite or fair one tries to be. Dealing with them is like playing Monopoly against a petulant child. If they can’t win by the rules, they’ll cheat. If they can’t cheat, they’ll throw a tantrum. At the end of the day, it matters not how they won so long as they won.
THAT is what we are dealing with! Get it through your heads, moderates. With the left, if you are not 100% fully with them, you’re an enemy to be crushed. Think of the Killing Fields! One misstep, one moment of non-orthodox thought, and you’re on a one way trip into the fields.
First, this is the pricing in relationship to NY City. Second, there’s likely some delivery fee and hanging fee in the $50k.
I suspect if you showed people the curtains and the quality....you could have found similar high-quality curtains in the range of $5k.
Saying they are curtains is technically correct, but if there anything like the ones in these rooms Ive been in, they are more closely related to automatic garage doors. The contractor probably makes much more than most doctors
I know my post is over the top, but the killing fields did exist, and Stalin’s purges, and Mao’s murderous cultural revolution. That and more was all done by the left. It starts with demonizing anyone who doesn’t fall in line, using propaganda against your opponents. The media do it all the time now. Subtle alterations of the facts to make opponents look bad, everything—even pictures—used in a way to cast opponents in the worst light.
So yeah, Nikki. You’re a member of the Trump administration. You’re the left’s enemy now and nothing short of a vehement denouncing of your boss will earn you any respect from the left.
Republicans in Congress still seem to believe it they're nice to Democrats Democrats will be nice in return.
Democrats are out to destroy Republicans and Republicans still act as if they can find 'common ground'.
Of course they did. Even before anyone else made such a claim I was 100% certain of that. No, not based on any direct knowledge of the incident. That certainly is born from knowing the nature of the MSM. They will do or say anything, knowing full well it is a lie, to further the leftist globalist agenda. Anything.
Even CNN called out the NYT for fake news in this case.
That’s right, C...N...N.
If the generic anti-Trump media is “fake news” and CNN is “very fake news”, what superlative should apply to a newspaper that gets called out by CNN?
