Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has a nine-point edge over opponent Rep. Beto ORourke (D-Texas) in the Lone Star States Senate race, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
About 54 percent of likely Texas voters support Cruz, compared with 45 percent who support ORourke.
While both have net-positive favorability ratings, Cruzs margin is greater than his opponents. About 52 percent of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Cruz, compared to 43 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. Roughly 43 percent of likely voters have a favorable opinion of ORourke, whereas 42 percent have an unfavorable opinion.
The upcoming midterm cycle is largely considered to be a referendum on President Trump. Likely voters are split 49-49 on the presidents job approval.
Cruz's 9-point edge in the polls differs from other recent surveys, which have ORourke only down four to five points. Republicans have grown increasingly concerned about Cruz holding on.
White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney told Republicans at a closed-door meeting earlier this month that Cruz could lose his seat, citing problems with his likeability, according to The New York Times.
I dont think its likely, but its a possibility. How likable is a candidate? That still counts, he said.
Should Texas become more competitive, it would open up a Senate map for Democrats that largely has them playing defense. Ten Democratic senators are running for reelection in states Trump won in 2016.
An average of polling for the Texas Senate race tabulated by Real Clear Politics shows Cruz up by four points. The Cook Political Report rates the race as Lean R.
Quinnipiac University surveyed 807 likely Texas voters from Sept. 11-17. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4.1 percent.
This is a state wide election for Senator, Governor and other officals.
The GOP will win the statewide races.

I disagree. The Hispanic community doesn't normally have big turn out numbers for Texas elections.....but I think they will show up for Buto, because he's promising them things they WANT, like open borders, free education, getting rid of/handicapping ICE, etc.
People completely miss the boat when they use Abortion Barbie for a comparison, because she was about little more than abortion, which has never been a big vote motivator for any of the Hispanics that I know.
Like other Freepers have stated.....we need to take the Socialist Buto seriously and get out the vote because the Barbarians ARE at the gate.
Save the seat.
I think in using the smear strategy against Kavanaugh, the democrats are going to find that they have energized the very voters they had hoped to suppress.
Not all Hispanics are for open borders, they did it legally, and they don't care for cheaters.
I live in Texas and we get about 2 a week as well, plus the text messages.
Frankly, I don’t know of anyone who actually answers the phone these days. Leave a message.
Everyone in my house will be voting for Cruz as well as all of my family. I’ve done a little volunteering for Cruz’s campaign. Wish I could do more. He needs all the votes he can get!
We’ve been texted by Beto campaign. We’ve both texted them back we support Cruz and not to contact us again.
WHEEE!!!!
Cruz had better be grateful for Trump’s endorsement and support!!
Democrat Wendy Davis once again...Ted Cruz will beat Beto O’Roucke by a one million vote victory margin...end of story!!!
dfwgator...whoever you are, you are 100% correct...”VOTE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT.....AND, IT DOES!!! Go Trump, Go Cruz, Go, GOP....GOTV, MAGA!!!
It’s that time of year when pollsters are going to have to start telling the truth so they aren’t too far off the mark on Election Day.
I will be voting, that goes without saying.
I got a text from Beno and I responded I was voting for Cruz and they sent a text back saying thank you. That was it and they sent no more text after that, how they got my cell number I have no ideal
Of course he is ahead. Always was. This is Texas were talking about. The polls are done by fake news media outlets. No reason to believe anything they say. When thousands stop turning out to see President Trump, then it will be time to worry. Til then, crawl over that broken glass to keep the evil rats from winning.
Beto down 69....on his knees...
After jumping on the Trump bandwagon. Hmmmm.
Huh? Cruz endorsed Trump before the 2016 Election and has already endorsed him for 2020.
Imagine how much further Ted Cruz would be ahead if his father didn’t kill JFK!!
PARTY IDENTIFICATION QUESTION WORDING - Generally speaking, do you consider yourself a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent, or what?
LIKELY VOTERS
PARTY IDENTIFICATION
Republican 35%
Democrat 26%
Independent 33%
Other/DK/NA 5%
Personally I am not so sure about that Independent 33%, it seems really high.
I do know that seeing all the Peto signs around town are only keeping me focused on getting out to vote and telling others they need to as well.
