President Donald Trump on Thursday denied the massive death toll estimate in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria last year, claiming without evidence that Democrats invented the numbers "to make me look as bad as possible."
"3,000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths," Trump tweeted Thursday morning. "As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3,000."
Trump added that, "This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico."
"If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics," Trump said.

...claiming without evidence”
A phrase that should be used in every discussion of the Mueller probe, but somehow never is.
Just heard that the 3000 deaths estimate came from a study done by George Washington University. Not sure that’s sure but, if it is, I don’t know how democrats can call that the “official” number.
So if someone died of a heart attack or stroke during,or just after, the hurricanes would that qualify as “storm related”?
Rubio(?) just can out and said Pres. Trump is wrong, and that 3000 dead is correct.
The media’s not even pretending to report the truth any more.
Territory of Puerto Rico release a count of close to 1,500 at one point.
Just more FAKE news from the left. Nothing is a surprise anymore.
Once in, Trump’s twitter account does the work the media should be doing.
There were estimates all over the place. Check out this WaPo article:
They probably counted the deaths until everyone had power..
if you have a stroke it is not caused by the hurricane
Those who report the cause of death frequently report incorrectly, based on how they feel about social issues. Two relatives, both terrible alcoholics, both fell and were found dead (I suspect due to massive organ shut-down from the fall trauma to their already disintegrating bodies)
Both were also smokers, and their death certificates showed smoking as a cause of death.
While I am sure smoking was not good for them, the alcoholism was much more the culprit. But not on the death certificates, so not in the collected statistics...
3000 deaths, my posterior! Show me the death certificates listing the cause of death.
Cause it’s such a simple process to sit in the DC suburbs and do a body count on a distant Caribbean island.
Puerto Rico population 3.4 million
Average life expectancy 80 years
Average deaths per year 42,500
Average deaths per month 3,500
Rubio will be dispensed with when he comes up for reelection.
What’s up with this death toll. Didn’t you say it was indeed inflated?
MSM adds that to every Trump quote.
Manufactured sources, however, are "officials".
I had four family members die while Democrats were in office, so I guess I can say that Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama killed my father, my brother, and my two sisters.
Anonymous sources are official to them as well.
