I was confused as well. Poorly-written.
But now having gleaned witness statements it puts this in an entirely new light.
If the floors of a building are thin enough, just the person walking around normally can make a lot of noise below. I lived in a condo with this problem, lucky for me the person above me was a woman who wasn’t very large, but the people in the condo above her drove her crazy with their stomping around.
In fact, there were noise complaints that very day about upstairs activity in Bothams apartment.
She just finished a 15 hour shift, that doesnt add up.
I know! The entire article is full of this stuff. Who writes these things? In another part it says, "The officer told police that she concluded her apartment was being burglarized and gave verbal commands to the figure, which ignored them."
In addition, not using quotation marks for the "let me in" part and the confusion about whether she lived upstairs or downstairs from the victim, the entire article is a very poor example of journalism.
The only connection we have been able to make is that she was his immediate downstairs neighbor,
Wait ... what?
That doesn’t mean the complaints came from her.
Yeah, I’ve said at motels, and even expensive hotels, where we could hear the party above us (or to the side). In some cases, they’re not doing anything abnormal, just walking an talking. It ruins the stay.
And why the hell not? If Dallas is stupid enough to hire this trigger happy harpy, they should pay for it. I know that if someone came to my house thinking it was theirs and then shot me dead, I would want my family to be compensated big time.
I have no idea what “The Grio” is but I just checked out Kia Morgan Smith’s account...probably not a graduate of Columbia U...
“Manslaughter is the least of the Dallas cop’s worries at this point. “
She’ll get get a Betty Shelby acquittal.
Even if there was actual malice involved (which could be the case) how is the City of Dallas responsible?
Of course if she had been responding to a call (that is "on duty") it would be entirely different.
IOW,sue the woman herself for every nickel she has.Unless there's something important that I'm missing I could easily vote to award the family $10 million from her personally.
The City of Dallas? No way! "Not responsible" would be my vote.
That excuse may or may not fly.
Typically, newer apartments lay down sound damping panels or pour wet gypsum on the floors during construction. When the gypsum dries, it makes for a decent sound damper.
From what I’ve read so far, it seems that both the parties lived alone. Has anyone seen anything different?
DID they do a blood alcohol test on her? WOULD police officers compel a fellow officer to do a blood alcohol test, if in their observation a test would not be helpful to their fellow officer?
unless it’s not true.
I've lived in a condo for years.I have people above and below me. I've had the carpeting replaced so I know that the floor is made on some sort of concrete.Noise has never been a problem for me...but the people below me complained about my radio and TV when I first arrived.Since then I keep the volume down and use headphones a lot.
Does the Federal Government bear any responsibility for creating pressure to hire women? Women tend to be trigger happy because they know they can't fight a man, especially a big man.
I just want to know how far this blame for what this individual did, needs to be spread.
One of the “selling points” of South Side Flats is their “stained concrete floors”, which are going to act like a drum head for anything causing vibrations.
I very much doubt that. I predict she will get ten years, with nine suspended.
