HOUSTON Days after a top adviser to President Trump questioned Senator Ted Cruzs chances of winning re-election, the Texas lawmaker casually stepped into the pinnacle of his hometowns energy industry on Tuesday the lobby of the Petroleum Club of Houston, on the 35th floor of a downtown skyscraper.
Mr. Cruz shook hands while holding a cup of McDonalds coffee. By the end of his remarks to the American Petroleum Institute, the audience rose for two standing ovations. It was not a campaign event, but it might as well have been: Mr. Cruz was relaxed and confident, eager to both attack his Democratic opponent and to poke fun at himself and his critics.
When theres extreme anger and hatred on the other side, dont respond in kind, Mr. Cruz told the audience beneath the glittering chandeliers. Have fun. Be a joyful warrior. He recalled encountering a Twitter handle, Ted Cruz ate my son. I was really tempted to tweet, He was delicious, he said.

Every waking day in Texas there are more Democrats and fewer Republicans than the day before. Eventually the races will be close.
Any “news” from the NYTimes is suspect. An article with multiple authors even more so.
Well, little David Hogg says Canadians can vote here, so why not?
Some people may still punish him.
Cruz will be a justice on the Supreme Court before that day gets here.
“An article with multiple authors even more so.”
A good point. It does amaze me how the quality of an article is inversely proportional to the number of authors attributed.
Who is better funded? Usually it’s the incumbent but the Dems are raising tons of money.
I would not ever vote for Cruz, but that is OK, because I have never been to Texas. My vote is nonexistent there.
I was displeased with him for daring to run for President though, knowing full well that is an ineligible candidate.
Is this what Constitutional Experts do? Run for office that they are not eligible for?
I suppose that I could tolerate Cruz as my Senator if he were to acknowledge the truth regarding his citizenship status. He wont and I will not be moving to Texas anytime soon.
I hold true strife against him for his obvious disdain for the Constitution.
Which Republicans? Nicole Wallace, David Frum, Steve Schmidt and Peggy Noonan?
Deep fried baloney.
There are just as many (if not more) conservatives moving to Texas, as there are liberals.
I'm in a public facing job where I meet all kinds of people daily, and I see this up close and personal. You wouldn't believe the number of conservative refugees I meet. They're coming here from all over.
Thanks for sharing. Go away.
Good one. Don’t forget Billy Kristol and Karl Rove.
Polls are like Hillary
A liar and no one to believe in
Yep. A lot of non-thinkers are falling for Betos smooth talk.
OH 12 was considered a safe seat. GOP barely won.
The goal of the left is to flip independents and soft Repubs.
That is done by the incessant, repetitave negative press on POTUS Trump and the GOP to install fatigue on said low-info voters.
Combine that with highly motivated neo-marxist democrats.
As if anyone would appoint him now.
I broke up a dog-fight between two of my 50 pounders just yesterday.
I can testify that both combatants came away looking pretty darned ugly.
And neither of them ‘won’.
No worries. GWB announced he’ll be fundraising for Cruz in Texas and Scott in Florida.
George W. Bush to hit fundraising circuit for GOP candidates
Cruz by 12, Abbott by 19
Take it to the bank...
I believe that is true.
