I can’t imagine how hard it was to be so far away from home and hearing that kind of horrible news!
It changed our community even to this day. The next year, on the anniversary, we American teachers assembled together, faced in the same direction as no one had a flag, and recited the Pledge of Allegiance together. It was actually just a small act, but a large act of unity and remembrance.
