Immigration judges hit back at Sessions for suggesting they show too much sympathy

A union representing the country's 350 immigration judges slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions for comments he made that suggested they were sidestepping the law and showing too much sympathy when handling certain cases.

“When we depart from the law and create nebulous legal standards out of a sense of sympathy for the personal circumstances of a respondent in our immigration courts, we do violence to the rule of law and constitutional fabric that bind this great nation," Sessions said Monday in a speech to newly hired judges. "Your job is to apply the law — even in tough cases."

Immigration judges, who work for the Department of Justice and are expected to follow guidelines laid out by the attorney general, said they believe Sessions was politicizing migrant cases.

“The reality is that it is a political statement which does not articulate a legal concept that judges are required to be aware of and follow,” Dana Marks, a spokesperson for the National Association of Immigration Judges and an immigration judge in San Francisco, told BuzzFeed News. “It did appear to be a one-sided argument made by a prosecutor.”

Ashley Tabaddor, president of the National Association of Immigration Judges, added that “we cannot possibly be put in this bind of being accountable to someone who is so clearly committed to the prosecutorial role."

Sessions, an ideological ally of President Trump on immigration, has established additional restrictions on the types of cases that qualify for asylum and when certain cases can be suspended. He was involved in the White House’s controversial “zero tolerance” policy that led to family separations at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Fire them all. Start over with loyal, American supporting judges. The current ones are victims of Stockholm Syndrome or whatever and have been turned into traitors.

Follow the law judges.

Otherwise you’re just a criminal like those you choose to favor.

“A union representing the country’s 350 immigration judges”

Here’s your first problem., What’s next, the SCOTUS forms a union? This is outrageous! Fire all of them and start over.

immigration judges are administrative judges. They need to be nice to lawyer representing illegals so when the judge retires they can cash in as a former immigration judge.

LIE. The separation of children at the border was due to existing law simply enforced as it should have been years ago under Obama. I do not think judges should have any affiliation to a Union!

Their title needs to be changed to accurately reflect their duties. They are claims examiners performing an administrative function, not judges making independent decisions.

Immigration judges are paid from a low of $22,000 to a high of $100,000 with an average of $58,000 per year. Actually, on average they are lower on the scale than the agents working in the field. Compared to the regular government employee, they would probably be rated as a GS-5 to GS-11.

They are not judges in the constitutional sense.

The judges are correct. Sessions refuses to go after the evil opponents of President Trump. Sessions behaves like a democrat insider.

Sessions still needs to clean out the Justice Department. He and we need a new team to enforce the laws. That is a tough job and Sessions is not up to it. Get a real AG with a team favorable to America. Do it now.

BULLCRAP! Most of these immigration judges are as bad as the immigration lawyers. I’ll bet they are in cahoots sometimes if the bribe money is right.

BTW these immigration judges are not regular judges....they are housed in the DOJ. So Sessions rules over them when he’s not chasing down marijuana growers.

Let me get this striaght....Judges have a UNION ?

This should be outlawed. They have no “right” to collective bargaining against the very citizens who are impacted by their rulings and who pay their salaries.
