I was working the front desk at a college library and my Mom called and asked if I had heard about first plane, I hadn’t but had seen it but had seen a blurb on a news feed on the internet of the computer I was using at the desk.

I went to my office which had a tv and turned on to watch the second plane hit and then the towers fall. All the students were in the library working without any clue for the most part. I finally stepped out and announced that the twin towers had been hit and collapsed and the number of dead was probably in the thousands and that the Pentagon had also been hit by high jacked airliners and that we were now at war. Lots of stunned faces and some gasps, students started exiting the library and went to the student activity area to watch on a big tv.

That evening parents, brother and even family friends showed up at my house and we ate pizza. I had Directv and at that time news feeds from New York local stations.

Physics could be your friend, if you wanted to truly understand what happened on 9/11. Labeling everything that does not line up with the faux 'official explanations' is not truth oriented.

Yes people needed to carry out life, but I think people also need to feel they are part of the war effort, support. We did not and do not have that. People carried on with their lives during WWII, but they also realized constantly that this country was at war.

The American people wanted more than anything right after 9/11 to do something...and the president told them to go shopping. There should have been some ways for people to feel they were doing something for the war effort. In the past Americans were made to feel whatever they did was part of the war effort...and most things do have a connection.

One of my daughters gave a speech a few months after 9/11 and she wrote about the feeling that Americans had during WWII and prior wars, knowing their job or business in some way supported the war. War bonds, victory gardens, ETC. Her speech ended with all the things needed for military support beyond weapons and ammo...companies that make military clothing, companies that provide MREs, you name it. Those in the audience said they had never thought about all of those things- no idea ordinary people can be and often are part of the war effort but are no longer told that. Large numbers of National Guard were involved in the war on terror so there was an ordinary connection of all the businesses that had employees leave for deployment.

The disconnect of the people to the military during a war was not new, it goes back to Korea and more so Vietnam. The thing is 9/11 was a missed opportunity to revive that, people were ready- our leadership missed that. We had been attacked, here at home! I think the reassurances President Bush gave people, and the advice to carry on was good, but he should not have left it at that. People were asking what they could do; that is when they should have been told things they could do, maybe we should have done war bonds or something.

I don’t know what the answer is but it really does bother me when our military is at war and our country is not. That feeds those that blame the military for wars, the disrespect many have for our country, our flag, our military, and even our country and what we stand for. If we can’t find a way to make people feel a connection I don’t see how we can survive as a country.

“the headline story was some California Congressman caught cheating on his wife.”

If not for this tragedy, Gary Condit would have been national news for months to come.

Can you please provide more detail????

Took the overnight train from Spain to Paris. Arrived in Paris, checked into hotel, and went shopping. Came back to the hotel and my buddy called my room from his and said turn on the tv. He and his wife came to my room and we called the hotel concierge to come up and translate for us.

We were all watching when the 2nd plane hit. She turned to us and said "I think your country is under attack!" We continued watching until both towers were down. I left the hotel then to buy a newspaper. Ragheads were in the streets celebrating. I'll never forget it.

I was prepared for the French to act like snobs but when they found out we were Americans they were like ... "We are all Americans now."

I can only speak to what I witnessed in Paris. I was a long way from Jersey City.

Those of us abroad at the time, especially in Europe, know firsthand how the muslim hordes are well on their way to conquest. As Mark Steyn says: “Demographics is destiny”.

Really, only about a week.

“I heard several times that they were celebrating in the streets and on rooftops in Jersey City, “

Trump said he witnessed that but, of course, people called him a liar. Per Rush today, there have been confirmations of that happening by many people.

Those photos of people hanging out the windows - they make me so mad. The final decision those poor souls could make in their lives was to either jump or stay and hope that a miracle would take place. I cannot imagine the calls that 911 operators had to take that morning. I bet they are still traumatized. Then when the towers collapsed - I can’t see the video of those without crying.

That morning I was working at an NBC affiliate in NC. We had tvs everywhere in the building. That first plane hitting the tower - I thought some pilot had a heart attack or something. It didn’t make sense. After the second plane I knew we were under attack. Next door to our operation there was a Red Cross and I told my boss that I wanted to go give blood. (There was no business as usual that morning.) She told me to go ahead, but when I got there they were too busy (dozens of people had the same inclination). I went back to work.

I could not think straight that day. I asked my husband that night if the rescuers would be able to find some survivors under the rubble and he told me that the people who did not get out were essentially atomized. I could not believe it. It was so final. I was grateful that Bush was our president and not Gore. We dodged a huge bullet that election.

My blood still runs hot when 9/11 rolls around. My husband can’t watch the shows like what the History channel is showing. I feel it’s imperative to watch and listen and read accounts at least this one day a year to honor the lives of those who died that day and in the days and months and years beyond it because of the effect that day had on them.

I didn’t object much to being told to go shopping. The Muslims wanted to shut us down, destroy us. Commerce is important for each one of us to thrive. That’s like being told to continue to live and not hunker down

I DID mind being told how Islam is the Religion if Peace though. That’s nothing but a lie and I still reject it. I do believe some Muslims mean no harm. But the religion as a whole is officially at war and should not be allowed in a civilized society.

Once they fell I always thought the same thing.
And the reason the second tower that was hit was the first to fall.

The second plane hit lower on that tower.

The weight of the upper floors was to great after the fire weakened the area that was hit.

I remember going to church the Sunday after 9/11. The priest that gave mass that day said "We should not hate these people (the jihadists), we should love them". I was extremely pissed off by his remarks, as were many of the parishioners.

The Bible means Christian love, not sentimental love, but that concept has gotten all blurry in the minds of many, including pastors.

Our UMC assistant pastor quickly arranged for the youth group to visit the mosque in DC, where of course they prayed the shahada for coversion over the kids in Arabic, so they didn't know what was being done to them. Disgraceful.

He had earlier refused our prayer group permission to use the copier to run off programs for our open-to-the-community prayer commemoration the night of 9/12, in spite of the fact that it brought almost 100 new people into our church that night, so many that we ran out of programs. Liberal much? I left the UMC soon after.

Fed ex stops for nothing. With the planes grounded they were bringing in 18 wheeler trailers from out of nowhere. The hub was littered with 18 wheeler trailers and everything that would normally go on an airplane was now being loaded into these trailers for delivery.

That was brilliant. What a good company. Is it good to work for?

At the mall for days and weeks after, they would purposefully step in front of shoppers and stop. And then make smart mouth comments. Just to antagonize people.

Not to take anything away from your original story, but that reminds me of the day after Obama was elected.

I heard several times that they were celebrating in the streets and on rooftops in Jersey City, but never saw any proof of it, and of course the left denies it. Are there any FReepers with direct personal knowledge of such celebrations?

I have no personal knowledge, but here is a list of news links I gathered when Trump was challenged about his memory of it during the campaign:

Freeper, Barbara K. Olsen... RIP

So sad. She also taught at Georgetown University (those days were just before the place turned totally against the Catholic religion). The campus was in an uproar, some having heard about her death and everyone else distraught over all the attacks; especially the one nearby. Students had climbed to the rooftops of the campus to see the Pentagon smoking across the river, a little over a mile as the crow flies.

I’m sure there are a lot of similarities in the thought processes of those two groups of people.
