Victor Davis Hanson: The Circus of Resistance
AmericanGreatness/RCP ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 09/10/2018 10:34:58 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

The resistance to Donald Trump was warring on all fronts last week.

Democratic senators vied with pop-up protestors in the U.S. Senate gallery to disrupt and, if possible, to derail the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. U.S. SenatorCory Booker (D-N.J.) played Spartacus, but could not even get the script right as he claimed to be bravely releasing classified information that was already declassified. I cannot remember another example of a senator who wanted to break the law but could not figure out how to do it.

Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), former Harvard Law Professor who still insists she is of Native American heritage, called for the president to be removed by invoking the 25th Amendment. Apparently fabricating an ethnic identity is sane, and getting out of the Iran deal or the Paris Climate Accord is insanity and grounds for removal.

Barack Obama decided that ex-presidents should attack current presidents, and thereby reminded the country why Trump was elected. The author of the Russian “reset”and the hot-mic collusionary offer criticized Trump for being soft on Putin. The president who never achieved annualized 3 percent GDP growth (and is the first president since 1933 who can claim this “distinction”) also claimed Trump’s roaring economy was due to Obama-era policies (e.g., raising taxes, Obamacare, more regulations, and “you didn’t build that” commentaries). Fresh from trashing his successor in a funeral speech, the ever audacious Obama called for more decorum.

Thanks for posting. This one is full of fantastic quotes like:

For all its billion-dollar market research, it apparently did not know what Donald Trump’s animal cunning had almost immediately surmised: a majority of Americans do not appreciate the pampered multimillionaire Kaepernick sanctioning violence against the police by wearing “pig” socks, or mocking the National Anthem by taking a knee. Nike could just as well have hired Bowe Bergdahl to push its sneakers.

Hypocrisy and Hubris. Thy name is Obama.

Oh, and my favorite. “Trump is a Liar!”

But Barry isn’t. LOL

Obama accidentally mentioned someone else in his speech the other day, he’s off his game. He’ll have that cleaned up for the next one and only mention himself.

A brilliant article by VDH. It’s a wonderful recap of all the lunacy and idiocy the leftists, kooks, statists, and commies put on display the past couple of weeks.

How this rabble can get more than 10% of the vote is a miracle.

I had a woman come to my son’s house last night to canvass for the local Democrat congressional candidate. I answered the door and went nuts, heaping hot coals on her. She didn’t deserve it, but after last week’s theatrics, what she represented to me was so reprehensible I vented absolute contempt on her. I wished her well personally afterward. She took it pretty well.

Civil war, friends.

The good thing is that baraq won’t ever figure that out. He believes that he is the ONE. And no one can tell the ONE anything. He is all knowing. And he can’t shut up. His pride won’t let him see or hear.

Thank you democrats. Now let’s get Hillary on the campaign trail.

Excellent review. My only quibble, and it's a big one:

...or when his Justice Department and FBI hierarchy deludes a FISA court in order to spy on American citizens.

There was no delusion. Rather, it was collusion.

“I love for obama to be out on the campaign trail. this guy is pure poison to the democrats.”

A question I have pondered....who is the bigger poison pill.
Barack “I Won” Obama
Or
Hillary “Pickles” Clinton?

IMVHO both are toxic, but which one kills more completely?

Trump is one of only three Republicans that I can think of who had to appeal to a wide range of voters in order to get elected, who has absolutely no fear of his critics, and fought back against them.

The other two were Reagan and Rudy Giuliani.

I know that a lot of FReepers have issues with Rudy. But what he did to turn New York from being “Calcutta on the Hudson” to the safest big city in the world was a major blow to the Leftist canard that “you can’t solve the problems of urban decay until you address the injustices inherent in the Capitalist system”.

Rudy was called Hitler by New York Leftists years before they ever knew that Bush 41 even had a son named George. He went up against the ultra Leftist New York City city council on every issue, and never cowered. And as Liberal as New Yorkers are, they loved Rudy for making their city liveable again.

My point is that on the rare occasion that we’re lucky enough to get a Republican who knows exactly what they want to accomplish, and who enjoys being a happy warrior, and playing the villain to Leftists, they are always adored and supported by the voters.

At the start of the new millenia, Republican voters continued their long standing tradition of nominating POTUS candidates “whose turn it was” (which included Reagan too, even though he was a good one). First Bush, then McCain, then Romney. Finally, we got wise and picked Trump.

And as much as the GOPe didn’t care for Reagan, you did not have this kind of reaction against him that we’ve seen against Trump. Reagan was still a smooth politician with Gubernatorial experience. And the country was not nearly as PC back then.

I believe that all this pushback against Trump will cause his supporters to rally around him even more than people rallied around Reagan and Rudy. The media treated Reagan’s enormous popularity as a subject they’d rather avoid talking about. In Trump’s case, they go much further, and try to convince people that the whole world hates him. The fact that they have to throw something new against the wall every week to see if it sticks, tells you that they know in their hearts that whoever runs against Trump in 2020 will suffer a similar fate to Walter Mondale, and with a lot more at stake.

There's another definition of "to delude" -- impose a misleading belief upon (someone); deceive; fool.

So I believe "delude" is a good word to describe what was done.

He and Spengler are two of the clearest writers of our time. Good writing is CLEAR writing. There is so much affected nonsense pouring forth from blogs. I hate to diss brilliant Steyn, but he shoots himself in the foot by indulging his inner ham all the time.
