Agreed re: lynchings. It wasn’t just evil-minded crackers picking a poor, poor darkie at random. There was always a good reason the locals felt justified in killing someone — usually a rather heinous crime, as you say. And it wasn’t just blacks who were lynched: about one-third of all persons lynched were white. Like the Inquisition, lynchings have been ridiculously exaggerated.
I'm going to guess that most lynchings were along the lines of "caught in the act, why bother with a trial", rather than racist hate. The average number per year is fairly tiny. If lynchings were because southerners were full of racist hate, the numbers would have been hundreds of times higher.
See if the number of blacks murdered by OTHER BLACKS in Chicago *alone* during Omoeba’s usurpation, exceeds the death toll from the KKK.
A dirty little secret about lynchings is that they occurred for a very good reason; rarely did they spring up organically on their own just because folks were full of hatred.
