Agreed re: lynchings. It wasn’t just evil-minded crackers picking a poor, poor darkie at random. There was always a good reason the locals felt justified in killing someone — usually a rather heinous crime, as you say. And it wasn’t just blacks who were lynched: about one-third of all persons lynched were white. Like the Inquisition, lynchings have been ridiculously exaggerated.

Like the Inquisition?! Hello what?! The fact is that The Spanish Inquisition was the reason 1000 ships with Jews on board left Spain to travel east to escape the genocide of non Christians by the Spanish Government. At the same time, Chris Columbus set sale west(to avoid the evil Moslems) to find a safe way to reach China and India.
