September 10 is the statistical peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season, and the conga line of storms dancing across the Atlantic is not disappointing historical data. The Governors of NC and SC have declared states of emergency for a potential major hurricane landfall, while Hurricane Florence is slowly creeping westward. Florence is predicted to increase forward motion and intensity Monday. Hurricanes Hazel (1954) and Hugo (1989) are two notorious major hurricanes to make landfall in NC and SC, respectively. North Carolina has prior experience with "F" named hurricanes. Hurricanes Fran (1996) and Floyd (1999) caused widespread flooding and damage in the Tar Heel state.
The NHC has been issuing Public Advisories for Florence since August 30. The five day "Cone of Uncertainty" archive progression since Aug. 30 may be found here.
Isaac is a small storm. Isaac is predicted to steadily strengthen during the next few days as the storm remains over warm waters and in a low wind shear environment in the short term. The NHC predicts Isaac will reach hurricane status within 2 days.
Helene is expected to reach hurricane status in the short term. However, Helene is not anticipated to threaten U.S. interests. The forecast track turns north into the mid-Atlantic.

Amen to your comment.
new GFS model well east..stays offshore
high sea temps and ‘wall’... gonna slow this baby down... and dump a lot of rain.
NN, anyway we can start a Florence live thread?
Navy ships off Virginia's coast were preparing to sail out of
the path, a North Carolina university has already canceled classes
and people have begun stocking up on plywood, bottled water
and other supplies...
In southeast Virginia, Naval Station Norfolk told not to leave
their vehicles at the sprawling base later this week because of
the flood threat. The Navy planned to send ships from the
Hampton Roads area of Virginia out to sea.
The Navy in Norfolk started emergency sortie at 1000 today. Tomorrow the piers will be deserted.
I have water jugs filled, generator out and tested, food stocked. I need a radio, one should be delivered Wednesday (thanks Amazon Prime). I made boards for windows years ago and have them stored, I’ll make the decision Wednesday if I’m to put them up. Will gas up the vehicles and gas cans tomorrow.
Praying it won’t hit here in Norfolk, and praying for friends and family down home near Morehead City, NC.
Will start a new thread closer to Florence landfall. Still greater than 1000 miles from landfall. The next thread may include the disturbance headed toward the Gulf of Mexico too.
Four feet of rain in the mountains of WNC will be biblical. The flood damage will eclipse the 1916 flood which is the benchmark for the worst it’s ever been in recorded time.
Important motions to monitor. If you go loop it you can see it. When HP builds back in this either stalls or reverts back a little but for now all surging north so, further north at first, further north the gate is open for tracking. Thats my theory for now. Keeps me in same spot

Is that speculation, or do you know what you speak, all due respect.
I have a vested interest in WNC
Per the Euro Model in Bastardi’s daily update video, 47” of rain is possible in central and western NC.

47 inches of rain in a few days would be devastating for WNC.
Thanks Fred & NN .. that’s about as concrete a storm warning as folks down there should need, ehh ?
All of Hatteras island and Dare County OBX under mandatory EVAC now.
Wow. They’re calling for staged evac of the entirety of Dare County. OBX first, then inland on Wed.
I grew up in eastern NC...until I joined the navy in 78. My Dad’s side of the family has been there since the 1720’s. They rode out Hazel in 56.
pressure still falling down another a couple MB since last pass
I believe he was talking about the Southern Appalachians. If it goes like it’s predicted it’s gonna be biblical.
