Former President Barack Obama bashed President Trump for taking credit for the strong American economy during a politically charged speech at the University of Illinois on Friday.
“By the time I left office, household income was near its all-time high, and the uninsured rate had hit an all-time low, and wages were rising, and poverty rates were falling. I mention all this just so when you hear how great the economy is doing right now, let’s just remember when this recovery started,” Obama said to applause from the audience.
“When you hear about this economic miracle that’s been going on – when the job numbers come out … and suddenly Republicans are saying, ‘It’s a miracle!’ I have to kind of remind them: actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016,” he added.
Obama’s remarks came on the heels of the August jobs report, which found that the United States created 201,000 new jobs in August.

When was it that you were eagerly speaking about growing the economy?
Pray tell, exactly which of your policies are you saying made this stunning improvement over a year after your policies got torn down? We are all pretty sure that massive tax cuts did this, as well as moving your policies. Please teach us, oh wise one, what policies made the amazing growth, so that other nations might follow and benefit from your amazing intellectual gifts!!
By the way, most leading indicators are very responsive to change, and can take effect within days or weeks. Most lagging indicators take about 2-3 quarters to kick in. You’ve been gone for 6 full quarters now. You’re not even responsible for the slowest parts of the economic changes, and haven’t been for almost a year. Nice try!!
Pubbies need a montage of Obama’s remarks during his presidency about the economy lows being the ‘new normal’, jobs gone and not returning, welfare/disability rolls increasing, etc.
For 8 years he and the press touted the stagnant economy as the ‘new normal’, and we better get used to it. Trump, in 2 years, has proved that false.
Obama couldn’t run a lemonade stand any better than he ran the US economy into the ground. Were it not for the big $$$money bail-outs, the economy would have crashing and we would have beat Venezuela to the bottom.
Obama did nothing to take credit for the current economic boom — except be a disaster of a president that caused Trump to get elected.
