Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has smoked marijuana live on the web during a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan.
Mr Rogan offered his guest the drug, which is legal in California, as the pair discussed tech innovation and the public's perception of Mr Musk.
"I mean, it's legal, right?" asked the Tesla founder, before taking a drag on the joint.
Last month, Mr Musk said he was not "on weed" when he tweeted about plans to make Tesla a private firm.
The business leader made the comments in an interview with the New York Times.
He also told the newspaper he works "120-hour weeks" and takes sedatives.
His controversial plans regarding Tesla's ownership were dropped about two weeks later, following outrage from some investors.
In another development, Tesla's chief accounting officer said he had resigned after only one month in the role, citing "the level of public attention placed on the company" among his reasons.
The firm's head of HR, Gaby Toledano, also announced she would not rejoin the company after a leave of absence. Tesla shares fell more than 7% in early New York trading.
'Is it legal?'
During the podcast, Mr Rogan offered Mr Musk a joint, which he said contained a mix of tobacco and marijuana - dried leaves and flowering parts of the female cannabis plant.
Of 50 US sates, recreational cannabis remains illegal in 41 - but it was legalised in California, where the podcast was filmed, in January.
"Is that a cigar?" asked Mr Musk when his host first proffered the joint.
The pair also enjoyed whiskey during the podcast recording.
Mr Musk pointed out: "Alcohol's a drug."
During their conversation, Mr Musk talked about his health and his management of Tesla - which he said was the most challenging of his various businesses and projects.

Obama & Musk ,the New Cheech & Chong
I don’t know whats normal for him, but I’ve ventured into deep waters psychoactively and it only reinforced my pro-Liberty convictions. Like I said, YMMV. If folks are already squared away philosophically my advice is not to roll the dice.
What an idiot! Want to bet that he drug test his employees?I wonder what this does for his insurance rates, and if he chooses to likewise allow his employees to use part, I wonder what that will do to his business insurance.
There’s a fine line between insanity and genius.
Musk crosses that line frequently.
“...I’ll never smoke weed with Elon again...”
Why? Because you're butthurt about it?
Trump is a businessman. He will suspend agreements with Musk if he believes the costs outweigh the results. Elon Musk smoking weed will not be a factor.
This is a rare case in which Clinton’s patented ‘I didn’t inhale’ defense actually seems warranted. Nonetheless, Musk seems pretty erratic in general. If I were a TSLA shareholder, I’d be a bit concerned.
Anonymous tesla senior management officials have reportedly sighted elon lighting a bong with the company flamethrower.
In this same interview he:
Smoked pot
Drank whiskey
Played with a flamethrower
CONTEMPLATED THE END OF THE UNIVERSE
Any one or two of those is fine, even funny.
But add in the LAST one to any two of those, and you have a Board of Directors sh*tting bricks.
I’m a fanboy, and....this interview was completely reckless.
Your self driving Tesla is smoking pot as it avoids those sidewalk pedestrians.
I haven’t done anything really in my life of any mention, you got me there, but I’m hoping the ten best years are ahead of me, (born in 1950).
My sense is that Musk has taken other people’s money, and will squander it. I think everyone was on board, but the past three months tells me the guy is a lefty progressive who can’t handle success.
Like I said, if I had some extra cash, I’d short his stock.
Yes, indeed. The stock is taking a hit today. He doesn't seem to be able to handle the stress of running a large company. I can't imagine what the Board Members were thinking when they woke up to this on their t.v.'s this morning.
This guy needs to be put into a position where he can do the "big idea" stuff; but, someone else -- an adult -- would be in charge of implementing the idea.
Yes, I'm sure that exact statement was uttered in the Tesla boardroom this morning.
It certainly doesn’t help Tesla. And the risks are great that it will hurt the company’s image. Bad move.
That’s what I was thinking. Government contractors must have a drug-free workplace policy in place.
I think this is what most of his investors were doing as they decided on whether to invest in his companies.
BINGO
Wonder how his investors feel about his antics and drug use? He is self-destructing, if not out of Tesla and his other companies soon, like in the next month or so, I bet he is booted by end of year, else companies are dead within year or so.
