There were no visible demonstrations by NFL players during the national anthem before the season opener on Thursday night.
All of the Atlanta Falcons and most of the Philadelphia Eagles stood throughout the anthem, including players who have previously demonstrated, such as Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins.
Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett wandered around the bench throughout the anthem and sat down near the end, but he did not kneel.
Most of the players reportedly had their hands over the chests throughout the anthem.
Last month, several Eagles players, including Jenkins, did not take the field during the national anthem at a preseason game, extending the ongoing protests by NFL players. Jenkins also raised his fist during the national anthem at a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Players have stated the protests are a stand against racial inequality and police brutality.
President Trump has taken on the NFL protests as a lightning-rod political and cultural issue, claiming the NFL demonstrators are unpatriotic.
Trump on Wednesday slammed the NFL and Nike after Nike featured free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the face of its latest ad campaign.
Kaepernick was the first to kneel during the national anthem to protest the treatment of people of color in the U.S. in 2016.
"Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts," Trump tweeted on Wednesday. "As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!"
Trump also briefly mentioned support for the flag during a rally in Billings, Mont., on Thursday night.
The NFL sought to end the controversy earlier this year with a policy that prevented players from protesting during the anthem. The policy was later frozen after the league fielded criticism from supporters and players.
Bennett is a thug, I don’t want him on my team. This is a good Christian LED team, we don’t need a thug like him.
Not For Long, or No Funds Left?
Doesn’t matter to me, I haven’t watched AN NFL game since 2015.
Ohhhh, it hasn’t burned out at all, don’t even think that for a second. The Nike Commercial w/ the A-HOLE is just a Start. Know that!
So while the story could have been how few there were, the Commissioner's own left-leaning sentiments actually amplified the "cause".

I don’t give a damn what they “visibly” did - the NFL, its owners, players, and fans can all go straight to hell. Screw the entire anti-American franchise, and all those who continue to support it in any way or form.
Their mask is off; never forget the nfl HATES America and HATES YOU, along with everything you believe in, cherish and hold dear.
The only thing the national felon league cares about is taking your money as they spit in our collective faces.
Planned.
Screw the NFL - SAT DURING THE ANTHEM?
WANDERED AROUND?
WHO DO THESE GANGSTA THUGS THINK THEY ATE FOOLING??
That guy needs to get more jackstands before he dies.
At this point, I don’t care what they do. NFL is dead to me.
No matter, will not watch NFL this season much like last season and the seasons before. Nuff was nuff.
The damage is done. I’ll never again watch an NFL game.
An app showed up on my phone like I asked for it. Wouldn’t click on it for any reason.
So what. I say it is too late. The NFL chose its path.
JoMa
I dont give a flip and will not be wa5ching no matter what they do at this late point in time.
Final score last night 18-12.
Now, if they stop the demonstrations, we know they are play acting. We still know what is in their hearts. Once they took their masks off, they can never put them back.
