The International Criminal Court (ICC) ruled on Thursday that it has jurisdiction over alleged deportations of Rohingya people from Myanmar to Bangladesh as a possible crime against humanity.
The decision at the Hague-based court paves the way for prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to further examine whether there is sufficient evidence to file charges in the case, although she has not done so yet.
Bensoudas representatives were not immediately available for comment.
Although Myanmar is not a member of the Hague-based court, Bangladesh is, and the cross-border nature of deportation was sufficient for jurisdiction, the court said. [ ]
The office of government leader Aung San Suu Kyi last month said Myanmar was under no obligation to enter into litigation with the prosecutor, and setting the jurisdiction over the case would set a dangerous precedent whereby future populistic causes and complaints against non-State Parties
may be litigated.

Trump government has put sanctions on Myanmar’s generals.
Does the ICC have an army?
The ICC was a blithering idiot’s pipe dream to begin with.
Nikki Haley fiercely accused Myanmar of atrocities, human rights violating, free press crackdown......
like a mouthpiece of Soros Foundation.
Does the ICC have an army?

Yes, they have.
NATO
Now I have removed my tin foil hat.
Like the U.N., the E.U., and the W.T.C., the I.C.C. seeks to bring nations under it’s management.
The E. U. is not a threat to us, but it certain tries to dictate to European nations what they can and cannot do domestically.
I reject any of these overlord types of enterprises.
Yes, they have.
NATO
NATO does not answer to the ICC.
In the liberal secular worldview, Islam trumps EVERYTHING else.
Poor Buddhist country suffering Islamic terrorist attacks in recent years from Muslim minority? You STILL have to accept Muslim refugees.
It is clear to all that the Burmese military has committed vast atrocities, Nikki Haley said. In a free country, it is the duty of a responsible press to keep people informed and hold leaders accountable.

Maybe she had nothing to do with the NYT op-ed.
Who knows?
Trump government has put sanctions on Myanmar military and government officials.
The price we paid for having The Nuremberg Trials.
How many divisions does the ICC have?
I get the idea, but I don’t buy into the concept. The Nuremberg trials were addressing criminal activity during the war. It was intended to make the proceedings above board and above reproach.
In special circumstances like that, I think a one of isolated series of hearings and judgements makes sense.
To set up an official perpetual enterprise that can name it’s own targets with malice politically, not so much.
There is a large population of refugees from Burma (they refuse to call their homeland Myanmar) in my community. From what I’ve seen they are hard working Christian people who are quite serious about their faith. I consider them an asset to our community. Most refer to them as “chins”. I don’t know if that’s considered a pejorative term or not.
Any ICC action as a result of ISIS war crimes? Targeting civilians, mass murder, chemical weapons, burning POWs alive? Drowning them in cages, blowing up ancient Roman ruins and cultural treasures?
Or are war crimes only “war crimes” when they target jihadis?
Very astute observation
The Rohos had swelled in population by a large and steady influx from Bangla Desh and had begun laying waste the Burmese communities in the area. The Burmese responded as the Burmesee do. It is, in fact, “ethnic cleansing.” It is also national self defense. The Generals and the Burmese people in general understand what it means to the nation and their lives to have a large and rapidly growing group of jihadists in their borrders. Thailand next door has experienced for years the depredations of the Moslem population in the Kra Isthmus, the prolific random murder of “infidels.” Vietnam simply doesn’t allow nonindigenous Moslems into the country and efforts to plant orthodox imams among VN’s own small still quasi Moslem population are stymied by the government. They don’t need that crap. They would rather remain non Moslem nations.
