Nike is going after 3 kinds of customers [4/7/2015]

Nike's business is on fire. The company is the biggest player in the athletic apparel market, with $28 billion in annual sales. Nike has plans to grow the business even larger by focusing on a few key demographics. "Everything we do starts with the consumer," CEO Mark Parker told investors during a recent conference call. "It's our obsession with serving the consumer that sharpens our focus and drives our growth." Here are the three consumers Nike is focusing on the most.

1. WomenNike is expanding women's apparel, especially sports bras and tights. Sales of Nike's training and running apparel for women grew by double digits in the last quarter, outpacing the men's business, Parker said. The company also released a new couture-style collection with offbeat items like skirts and lace-trimmed jerseys. Women in their 20s and 30s are largely driving the "athleisure trend," in which customers buy leggings with the intent of wearing them to the gym, errands, and brunch. Nike says the women's line could add $2 billion in additional sales by 2017.

2. Young athletes Kids who play sports are a growing part of Nike's business, according to Parker. Nike gets young athletes to wear its products through sponsorships with local leagues, clubs, and federations. It also sees partnerships with professional athletes as an important way to draw in young customers. All NFL teams currently wear Nike gear. The brand also has partnerships with scores of famous athletes, including basketball star Kobe Bryant and tennis champion Roger Federer. Under Armour has also started signing famous athletes as a way to attract young customers.

3. Runners Much of Nike's innovation efforts are focused in the running category, according to Parker.

Not quite.

The people who buy their crappy shoes get their money from people who are pro American.

All NFL teams currently wear Nike gear.
And here we get to the crux of the matter.

I think most of Nike's customers are young and stupid...and probably part of the crowd which has been brainwashed by the Liberal cabal.

That said, this is a virtue signalling move (a really cheap shot) which will no doubt cause a certain percentage of their current and potential customers to #walkaway yet not increase their existing base.

I, for one, will never buy a Nike product from here on out, though I have bought plenty of athletics shoes from them in the past.

I am 63 years old and have never worn or used anything with the nike logo. I never will contribute even one penny to this company. I disliked them since they first came out and I dislike them even more now. I will die happy without ever supporting nike.

I quit Nike in the 80’s when I visited a Korean plant that made tennis shoes, cheapies, along with Niki, using the same materials. Why spend 3 times what they are really worth. Same with Rolex

Nike has a long term contract to supply NFL uniforms. Stupid is as stupid does. With this association, nike guarantees FEWER people will see the logo if anything it will COST them sales by negative association.

This is just a little love note from Nike to all of you deplorables in flyover country. we do not want your money.

We are special elites and would prefer not to associate with deplorables.

People with wide feet are not their customers. The last pair of Nike I bought were Air Pegasus that I took to Parris Island as my Gofasters in 1989. It’s been nothing but New Balance since.

Here’s the thing that Nike didn’t think about. Most of their younger target customers are still subsidized by their parents who actually have the money. I know that I am still buying my kids clothing. I will never buy them another Nike product ever again!! Middle America will not go for this and the Inner cities just don’t have the money except for those who steal to pay for their Nikes!

I fit two categories - I am a woman and a runner. I have never bought their shoes (I have an adidas foot, it seems). I like the women’s running shorts and socks. But I will not buy them anymore.
