I respect that, it reminds me when Bob Dole resigned from the Senate after he got the GOP nomination for President, saying it wasn't fair to his constiuents to continue holding the title of "Senator" and collecting a salary when he couldn't be there to do the job.
Sadly, no Senators since then followed his lead. Joe LIEberman, John Kerry, John Edwards, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and John McCain had no qualms whatsoever of not only being "Senator" In Name Only, but running for re-election as "Senator" WHILE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT/VICE-PRESIDENT so they had a "fall back" political job in case they lost. In the case when they DID lose, they pretty much stayed in the Senate until the bitter end.
I'll take Bob Dole and Ron DeSantis' decision over that any day.
Senate is different, Dole was replaced by gubernatorial appointment, RINO scum though because Governor Graves was RINO scum. Thank God Brownback beat the RINO Sqeaky Fromm in the special election primary, for a minute there you had friggin Snowe and Collins in KANSAS (pre Collins!). Because of the RINO Governor I’d have advised Dole only to step down as leader and not resign from the Senate.
DeSantis seat will remain vacant the rest of the year and his constituents now have no representation instead of limited representation. I don’t like that. I don’t like House vacancies, I don’t like resignations from the House unless necessary. I don’t like resignations from the House after it’s too late/pointless to have a special election to fill it, there’s no reason for it unless you need to report to prison.
Symbolic value aside, the amount of money involved is completely meaningless, and consider this, DeSantis could just donate it to charity and it would do 50 times more good than remaining in the federal treasury. I view it as a campaign stunt.
