Except that Kyl will step down in January 2019.

As long as hes a solid vote for Kavanaugh, I couldnt care less if he was from Mars.
I suppose we could debate that likelihood (that he will vote for Kavanaugh not whether hes from Mars) but little else seems relevant at this point (since hes probably just a placeholder anyway)

That assumes that Ducey will win reelection. If not, David Garcia will make that appointment, and it won’t be a Republican.

Kyl has agreed to serve at least through the end of the year, a representative for Ducey said. If he opts to step down after the end of the session, the Republican governor would be required to appoint another replacement, the aide said.
This smells like a set-up to me.
Ducey appoints Kyl and gets reelected in November and then Kyl steps down in December and then with his reelection over with, Ducey appoints Meghan McCain.
No wonder Cindy McCain is so happy with this pick.

We Arizonans were disappointed when Mr. Kyl retired. We wanted him to run for the Presidency, and we believe he could have won. Mr. Kyl is a man of honor and integrity, and we have faith in his character and his ability.
Thank God.

This smells like a setup. Ducey should have appointed the runner-up in the primaries. We have to keep posting, etc. against Meghan and Cindy being appointed.

So Ducey can appoint himself Senator until the special election in 2020? Possible, I suppose.

I assume that Ducey will make the appointment before he leaves office should he lose.

According to AZ law, the appointee must be from the same party as the one being replaced.

What can we do do keep them out?
I suppose we can keep the pressure on the Governor, post little know truths about Cindy and Meghan, show photos where they (at least Cindy did) with duct tape across their mouth and looking ridiculous like a promo for a S&M flick?
I expected Ducey to appoint the runner-up in the primary.

I agree about the Kavenaugh vote, but I still want more. Don’t you?

He is a placeholder. Ducey has made the safe choice and kicked the can down the road.

Yes, Senator Kyl could resign as early as January 2019 (i.e., the end of the current Congressional session). Kyl will be there as a reliable Republican vote (e.g., for Kavanaugh for Supreme Court) and will get Governor Ducey safely past Novembers election with a non controversial pick.
The real question is who the hell Ducey will appoint should Kyl resign come January.

Why is this given in PST? Arizona stays on MST. I don't know why it's MST. Arizona border from the west coast on the water is only 148 miles straight line. Seems a bit odd it's in Rocky Mountain time zone.
