Shares of Nike Inc fell 3 percent on Tuesday as calls for a boycott of the sportswear giant gained traction on social media following its choice of Colin Kaepernick as a face for the 30th anniversary of its "Just Do It" slogan.

Former San Francisco quarterback Kaepernick, the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racism, posted a black-and-white close-up of himself on Instagram on Monday featuring the Nike logo and "Just do it" slogan, along with the quote: "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

Over 30,000 people were tweeting with the hashtag #NikeBoycott on Tuesday morning U.S. eastern time, making it among the top trending topics on Twitter.

What the hell is Nike thinking? It's not as though they were a brand desperate for PR attention. They dominate the space. This is the third rail they touched and it will do nothing but burn. Really shaking my head here...

Reaffirming that uninvited liberal racial activism is a true mental disorder, Nike has since adopted an even newer COP-hating slogan for its non-thinking consumer underclass:

“I Dare You To Run My ID For Outstanding Active Warrants!”

There are, politically and culturally, some sins that are unforgivable.

I think Nike may have just committed one.

Perhaps (just my view of this)...some insider Nike guys convinced the board this was a grand idea, and the idea is to downsize the share price enough that someone (perhaps Adidas or Puma) would walk in and buy Nike at a cheaper discounted price.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but it’s not normal for a brand to dissolve it’s relationship with 15-to-20 percent of its customers so easily.

"Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

Perfect slogan for the scorched-earth results they can expect. Must be his family members heading up the marketing division at Nike.

I bought a pair of Asics running shoes last week.

I’m wondering when shareholders will revolt with a class action lawsuit resulting from losses for one of these foolish companies wading into politics.

Even when you “sacrifice everything”? Like the money that nike is paying this POS assclown? Yup. That there is some real sacrifice. Almost like some poorly paid grunt in backwater Afghanistan getting killed by “friendly” insiders. FU kap and FU nike.

The executives that make these decisions are largely immune to the consequences. Worst case, they will have to move on to the like-thinking leadership of some other corporation. There will be many to choose from.

I’d to ask the guy who wrote this drivel, when did the boycott of Dick’s fail? I guess he means that the doors are still open. Check them out next quarter, if they’re still around by then.

Nike shoes cost, on average $7 to make and ship to the US. Two large costs are royalty and ads. Still it is one of the most profitable apparel products ever sold. The accountants out there will know that this means that a boycott sends losses to the bottom line at a rate of almost 50%. By the way, is a BOY- cott racist?
