Last week I wrote about John McCain and received emails after the column appeared. One of them asked me why I did not talk about the Keating John McCain was one of the five sitting Senators who was part of the Keating Five. This took place in 1989. According to Wikipedia, Senators Glenn and McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised poor judgment.'
When I was in Iraq in 2003, after going to the house where Saddam Hussein kept women, one employee of the Ministry of Culture said to me, Nobody perfect. That can certainly be said of John McCain.
We heard that because of John McCains family background, he became a pilot even though his qualifications to become a pilot were suspect. You can say what you want about then-pilot McCain being held in the Hanoi Hilton (the name given to the POW prison where he was held), but he refused to leave once they discovered who his father and grandfather were. He was not perfect, but he behaved like a hero.
Why did Senator McCain get the accolades this week? Why, of all the people who have laid in state (31 people, including Senator McCain), did McCain get that honor? It is because of what he stood for and why the country needs Senator McCains view point right now.
President Trump has been tweeting constantly. His tweets are often divisive. For example: The Fake News Media is going CRAZY! They are totally unhinged and in many ways, after witnessing first hand the damage they do to so many innocent and decent people, I enjoy watching. In 7 years, when I am no longer in office, their ratings will dry up and they will be gone!

Is he under the ground yet? I don’t think that JFK had or Queen Elizabeth will ever have such a ridiculous weekend of groveling to a politician who “crossed the aisle” (as if the other side EVER CROSSED THE AISLE). My God, is it over yet????
He brought fraudulently documented foreigners to our country to kill Americans that Americans wouldn’t kill.
He thought we should all respect their right to ignore all of our laws.
I am glad he is gone.
Sorry Ellen, it was Aretha Franklin who brought RESPECT. McCain gave us F*** Trump. You’ve got your political funerals mixed up.
For those who watched and heard excerpts of it, it conveyed one message. They are not Us.
“Former President Obama, often the target of President Trump, said at the funeral: So much of our politics can seem small and mean and petty.’”
So says the man who proclaimed if he had a son, he’d probably look like Trayvon.
Some pic I saw of Cyndy McCain jamming flowers onto the Vietnam Memorial. Would she try to get that Traitor’s name added to that too?
Did McCain “respect” his first wife?
If tossing dead Christians, Yazidis, Alawites etc. into mass burial pits is bringing people together, Ace McCain did indeed bring people together, at least by proxy.
He certainly brought people together. He was the only Republican working with four Democrats in The Keating Five Scandal, and he worked with the Russian Oligarch Oleg Deripaska to get a copy of the dossier on Trump, so he could hand it over to the FBI. Quite a man that John McCain.
Some people are disturbed by that MegaFest by the Deep State, but not enough. They sat there, supposed political opponents across the political spectrum, and participated in this bitter, spiteful display.
For those who watched and heard excerpts of it, it conveyed one message. They are not Us.

It also displayed their weakness. That was what they can achieve right now.
Wow, Ellen Ratner is still around?
The World is a better place today.
The only people McCain brought together were RINOs and Democrats.
AND Keating has always been called a Republican scandal. McCain was the only Republican involved, but as always, the Dems deflect the criticism to us. McCain was not an honorable man......the highest praise for him coming from the Democrats (of course!). I would love to see JUST ONE Democrat reach across the aisle like McCain did. Maybe Joe Manchin is similar, but his funeral will not be so high and mighty, Im sure.
This was meant to be comedy, right....?
That and many other topics about McCain were studiously avoided this week.
McCain died!?
Who knew!?
