This is what happens when you send children to the negotiating table and the other side sends men.

When Justin Trudeau met with Obama it was an Estrogen-fest. Social justice warriors can’t cut it in the big leagues.

Still winning.

Trudeau is a lightweight tool--just like Obama. Putting him in the same water tank with The Donald was like putting a carp up against a great white shark.

I am presently reading The Art of the Deal--and I wish that I had read it 3 years ago. The book, published in the 1980s, explains just who he is. I really just sort of ignored Donald Trump until he entered politics. I keep laughing out loud as I see behaviors in the book that I have observed since his candidacy began.

Excellent description! And add that the Trump’s aren’t afraid to eat cheeseburgers!

I read his book during the 2016 campaign. I, too, was amazed at how much this book revealed about how PDT operates. He is a master strategist and tactician.

Be careful what you wish for, 36 states have Canada as their largest market for EXPORTED goods.

If it comes to a tariff war, I honestly don’t know who comes out worse, it might not be us.

Very few Canadians ever wanted the free trade agreement, it was finessed by some high sounding promises in 1988 almost none of which turned out to be realistic.

As to the supposed differences in negotiators, that has nothing much to do with the political ministers in charge, they just show up to sign the documents. I would imagine we have some hardass negotiators at work, that “nice and sorry” stuff is just for lulling people into a false sense of security. Ever see a hockey game? Point taken.

Those 36 states are the reason Trump is in a rush to force his version of free trade on Canada. Without a deal in place before the November election the Republicans will lose votes in those States.
Americans have not been told the truth about trade with Canada. There is no trade deficit with Canada so why do they want us to risk our food security by damaging our unsubsidized Dairy industry. Obviously an unsubsidized farmer can’t compete with an American farmer who gets half of their income through government subsidy.

I’ll trade. Canada can have New England and our Left Coast. We get their West minus Vancouver. Everybody will be much happier.

It’s bigger than China but still us exports to Canada in total is only 1.4% of our gdp and we do have a $20b trade deficit with Canada. Regardless, Canada’s behavior has been very odd on this.

Where’s the pic of that arrogant ignorant sow marching in followed
by her befuddled little entourage of misfit toys, with Herself dressed in purple, lol? Anybody else remember the Hillary purple thing? Conservative Canadians, I actually feel sorry for you, you’ve got it as bad or worse than we had it under Obama.

From the Office of Trade US Government

U.S. exports were $320.1 billion, while imports were $307.6 billion. The United States had a $12.5 billion trade surplus with Canada in 2016. Canada has historically held a trade deficit with the United States in every year since 1985 in net trade of goods.

There is no trade deficit with Canada. Canada has a population of only 37 million and buys more from the US
than any other country in the world does.

I find it odd that your president hides the fact that Canada is your largest customer. Has he ever mentioned that we sell you 2 million barrels of oil per day at a 40% discount? I find that odd and misleading when he’s telling you how unfair Canada is to the US

Canada go pay for your stupid Treudopian welfare programs with your own money. Not with what get from the US with rip off NAFTA deals. Before Trump I was not aware of this bad deal. I disliked NAFTA but did not it was this bad.

“The Western provinces remind me of Montana or Nevada”

I’m sure leftist Vancouver has all the votes needed to dictate which way BC thinks and do, just like Seattle, Portland, Frisco/ L.A.

The premise of the article is wrong. The President never contemplated a new Nafta. The President operated on the basis that Mexico and Canada were not the same. The agreement with Mexico must be different than the agreement with Canada.

That being true, there is no agreement being developed with Mexico to which Canada will be forced to sign at the last minute. The basic failure to grasp that concept is a statement the writers of general ignorance

There is another aspect. What happens to the generally unknown but never mentioned.relations between Canada and Mexico? With the demise of Nafta, those trade relations must be bilaterally reestablished.

The glaring fact is that the Trudeau government has failed big time
