He was selling "snake oil," "making a false and politically damaging promise," committing "a fraud on the American people," and "(doing) his country a major disservice." He was "creating a huge distraction" by pursuing "a fool's errand" and "the dumbest idea" one Senator claimed he had ever heard. He was a "false leader" engaging in "government terrorism."
In sum, he was a "joke, plain and simple," and as one especially distinguished colleague affectionately recalled, "Lucifer in the flesh."
And those were all descriptions from his own party.
Oh, by the way: Ted Cruz was also right.
The vilification Cruz endured from fellow Republicans back in October 2013 stemmed from his to-the-mattresses battle to shut down the government in hopes of defunding the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or ObamaCare, before it could take full effect.
Now, Fox News is reporting that the once-hated program is more popular than the GOP's signature initiative the recent tax cut. Which should be no surprise.
Because the lonely stand of the Lone Star State's junior Senator stemmed from his apprehension that "(President Barack Obama's) strategy is to get as many Americans as possible hooked on the subsidies, addicted to the sugar. ... If we get to January 1 (2014), this thing is here forever."

Oh the Freeper community supports repeal but just make sure their health insurance covers preexisitng conditions and that the premiums are affordable. And they can go to any doctor they choose.
...and they can buy into the insurance anytime they wish, doctors will not make them wait, all care and treatments are covered,
But just dont force them into paying for Obama Care. That isnt right.
"Incompetence" is the wrong word. We have been conned. The GOP is part of the Washington establishment and they just pretend to be conservative.
You already know what I have to say about the Washington Establishment, how it started, and who is currently behind it.
The goal of the establishment is to keep the money spending party going and anything which causes government to spend more money, is just fine with it.
I'll add that the media is liberal precisely because this works in the direction of increasing Washington spending.
The medical system we have now is a sort of Ponzi scheme in which far more is charged for services than is actually given in services.
Also, the services are often not very good or competent.
I do. And I'll give your opinions here the same consideration I give your opinions on the rebellion. I promise.
This. There is a lot of phoney crap going on in the medical system. This is no market based system. It's controlled by Government and Universities to restrict the supply of doctors, and even those that get through are regulated to a crazy extent. Everybody plays games with the billing to, among other things, offset the mandated costs of treating the indigent, who do not hesitate to go into a Hospital emergency room for a sniffle.
This is also an extension of the general education problem. Nowadays, it shouldn't cost several hundred thousand to get a degree. University "credentialism" is keeping those prices artificially high, and we need to first break that bubble so that we can get more people with degrees to be able to go to medical school.
I've heard Texas has been trying to implement a "$10,000 degree" program, and it seems to me this is a good beginning to addressing some of the underlying problems.
This. It's the problem with all socialist ideas. Sooner or later you run out of other people's money. With no pressure to hold down costs, people don't try to conserve medical spending.
It's part of the problem. Not the only part, but it is a very significant part of it.
That's what I think too.
No surprise to me. You never struck me as an individual that could separate emotion from objectivity. Once you’ve set your mind against something, it won’t get anywhere with you.
We cannot afford the standard of health care that we have come to expect as our God-given right.
The only way to cure people of a mass delusion like this is to have an all-powerful force (GOVERNMENT, in our case) do it for us. This type of arrangement is necessary because the delusion has to be cured by someone/something that can do whatever the hell it wants ... and the only thing the public can do is complain about it.
You’re probably right. If that’s the case, we will soon find out because more and more people are waking up to this con game and cutting the insurers out of the process.
Couldn’t agree more, DL!
Breaking the Education monopoly will give us a win on so many levels.
“In fairness, McCain voted against a repeal and replace. Had there been a clean repeal would he have voted differently?”
Not likely. (1) A yes vote would help Trump and we can’t have that, can we?? (2) McCain loved government control of citizens.
