Shock study: U.S. had far fewer mass shootings than previously reported
The Washington Times ^ | August 29, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

A shock 2016 study argued that the U.S. accounted for nearly one-third of all mass shootings, sparking global headlines about the dangers of an American gun culture. Now another researcher says the original study “botched” the data. John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, crunched the numbers and said his count shows that the U.S. had less than 3 percent of the world’s mass public shootings over a 15-year period. That is smaller than the 4.6 percent of the world’s population that the U.S. accounts for — and way less than the 31 percent of global mass shooters that Adam Lankford, a professor at the University of Alabama, claimed in his widely publicized studies. “If you fix the data, you get the opposite result from him,” Mr. Lott said. “He has the United States way out there, all by itself in terms of mass public shootings. He’s simply wrong. The United States, when I go through this, ranks 58th in the world in the rate of mass public shootings and 62nd in the world in terms of murders from mass public shootings.” Mr. Lott said he tried to get Mr. Lankford to disclose his data but the professor won’t share it with him or other researchers, making it impossible to double-check the original claims or to figure out why Mr. Lott’s numbers are so different.

Mr. Lankford lost the hat he was using to pull numbers out of.

Mr. Lott is an honest man. I don't know who Mr. Lankford is but his refusal to share the information and research he based his finding on speaks for itself.

Funny story on Cleveland TV “news” last night. Cleveland was listed for 31 school shootings last year. There were none. Some idiot filled in the wrong line. “31” was the number of incidents where someone attempted to bring a gun or knife into a school. (you can’t make this stuff up)

Losing his hat shouldn't matter, he still has that part of his anatomy from which he extracted those numbers. "Hat" is too benign.

Yes, but, as far as is known, Mr. Lankford still has his a$$, and that's far more likely where he was pulling those numbers from ...

There is an excel spreadsheet function often used by researchers fabricating a case, it is PIDOOMA()

pulled it directly out of my

You see it a lot in “gun violence” reseawrch, global warming research, and hate crime reporting.

Too bad he was not fired for his bogus study, but he should shamed for what is most likely not an error but a total fabrication.

A shock 2016 study argued that the U.S. accounted for nearly one-third of all mass shootings, sparking global headlines about the dangers of an American gun culture.

So, what does that have to do with anything. The mass shootings in America mostly occur in what the leftists call "Safe Zones". Does the rest of the world's population all live in safe zones? How about adjusting the stats where safe zones are a factor. How about adjusting them when drugs, mental illness, and criminal intent are factors.

The American gun culture is the ultimate defense we use against our enemies, both domestic and foreign. And that includes our own government. While the rest of the world is just trying to get along, we have acknowledged there is really no such a thing as a safe zone to protect us, that we are solely responsible for protecting our lives and property.

If the rest of the world doesn't like it they can shove it...

We’ve had some high profile events and many, the press blew out of proportion. The Boston Marathon bombing didn’t rise to the level of mass murder. Only 3 died, though many were maimed.

Mass murder and mass shootings are 2 different things. The press counts both the same.

Libs are not only totally insane, they’re also one of the biggest liars one will find on the face of the planet. Only muslims lie more than libs...and even that’s debatable.

This refusal to release the data is the proof that the original study was bogus.
