Remember Ted Kennedy in 1987 claiming that if the Senate confirmed Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, women would be forced into back-alley abortions [and] blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters? Not vitriolic.
How about the 1991 high-tech lynching by Senate Dems of Clarence Thomas? Again, not vitriolic.
Or the infamous NAACP dragging-death ad of 2000 in which George W. Bush was accused of killing the victim all over again? Nope, not vitriolic.
No, the political vitriol didnt begin until 2008. And it was Sarah Palins fault. That is, if you believe CNN, and, apparently, John McCain. This morning, CNNs senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny said:
By not having Sarah Palin at the service as well, and this was the wishes of his family, we are learning, he is also trying to perhaps put something back in the bottle that he helped, sort of, create in that 2008 campaign. Thats when this vitriol was sort of first beginning.

Palin was brought in to be the scapegoat for McCain's premeditated loss ...
What?
That was McCain’s total image package...”Maverick” and “going rogue”.
Sarah was only trying to comply with what she thought he wanted.
Sarah got this whole, push-back thing, started, which has led us to where we are now.
I would have been fine with McCain dropping out at that point, and letting Sarah run for POTUS.
McCain was a dog.
It would be interesting to go back to 2008, and that moment when McCain called Palin, and for a brief moment Palin considered the offer of VP, and declined (knowing the idiot that McCain was).
Palin would have gone on in 2010 to run for the Senate seat against Lisa Murkowski, and likely run. She would have sat around the Senate for six years and maybe been President Trump’s VP.
Such a big deal over a funeral for Senator No Deal. The real big deal is his replacement. As long as it’s not a Jeffords-like slime-ball, or another maverick, we should be alright...I hope!
His pettiness extends beyond the grave — what a despicable human being. He just couldn’t leave this earth quietly. His last days/weeks must have been spent dictating one long hate-spewing diatribe against everyone and everything who he thought ever wronged him.
ROTFL, Three cheers for putting the worst construction on my remarks.
I'm not going to explain what I meant, not to you. Twit.
They only lead immediately after her selection, then petered out. There was one outlying poll on 9/21 from George Washington University that showed them ahead by two points. Otherwise, it was all Obama.
Soon we will be able to remove McCain from American history and Sarah will still be around.
She was going rogue and upstaging his maverick shtick. Which helped with the base, but turned off swing voters. As his second on the ticket, she should have deferred to his lead. It would be like Pence undermining and upstaging Trump.
See President Trump, see? This is how to be gracious. Or something . . . .
I wish that Trump would do something YUGE as a distraction on each day of McCains numerous funerals. Yank some security clearances, kick a puppy...whatever it takes to draw attention away from the maverick.
So Palin is the reason the national “media” became a band of hatefilled, vitriolic monkeys? That’s quite a stretch if you ask me.
I couldnt stomach the love-fest from both Republicans and Democrats. I hope she has a pleasant day surrounded by people who love her.
Sarah Palin is the true patriot that wanted to serve her country. She knew whatJM was and Im sure coming back to DC for the McCain love fest was not something she would want to do. She can happily turn the page on JM and his vitriol forever and focus on things that bring her joy. AMEN thank you Gov Palin for your Service and Strength.
He picked her BECAUSE of her reputation of being somewhat of a “Maverick” as Governor of Alaska, in addition to the PC and eye candy reasons.
She was just being herself from day one, and it outshined the RINO McCain...which was obviously a definite no-no.
But, Sarah could have taken a ten minute nap in front of the camera and outshone McCain.
Personalities are personalities, and hers just shined brighter.
There weren’t enough “swing voters” to matter.
More like he was leading the attacks. He purposefully chose her because she had baggage which could be used to as cover while he pimped for obamy.
As it should have been. He was at the top of the ticket.
There werent enough swing voters to matter.
We found that not to be true in 2016. The swings, many of them Obama supporters from 08 and 12, put Trump into office.

I didn't like the Obama Presidency, not at all. But hateful, deranged McCain would've been worse. If I remember correctly, he was unilaterally declared "unstoppable front runner" when Huckabee was gaining traction.
McCain was the designated loser in that election. And he still has animosity toward Sarah Palin, who stood for what she believed and gave 100% in the quest for a successful result.
